Hi all,

This is the first project I have been able to get some shots of before it bounced out the door.

So I will use them to make my introduction here.

The Mighty Macy

All comments welcome.

Welcome to the [H]ardForums!!

The case looks very nice...
Any chance we can get some more pictures inside and out and possibly more explenations?

Now that's a big ass blower on the side of that thing! heh. You seem to do nice clean work, good job! keep it up. Welcome to the [H] :D

Thanks for the responses!

Will, I put up another shot, an available light of the case with the side panel off. I realize now that I should have done detail shots of everything especially the inside. This machine is 500 miles away from me now so it might be a while before I get another chance. By then I will prolly have gone on to bigger and better things.

If there is any point of curiosity that isn't evident, just ask.

SB22, yeah, I got that from Caseetc. before assimilation. I wanted to see what kind of difference a fan that powerful would make if placed so it would blow onto the ram slots, CPU and video card. I had planned to use one of those big passive Zalman sinks originally but I decided not to tempt fate by trying to remove the factory cooler on a $500 card. But overall it seems to make about a 10º difference in both CPU and overall case temps.

Thanks again,

zC

Marklar, "Yes" ;)

Yep, Welcome to the forums, I think you will like them alot!!

Alot of great news, info and everything on these forums!

You do nice work.

I had a comair rotron patriot AC in the side of one of my former cases and I think it actually was good for more like 15-20C in that case. However, I didn't have a grill at all on it and it only ran on or off, no variable speed. I loved it and will probably use it again. Try one of the AC fans next. You can tap the AC from inside the psu and it doesn't sap any of those valuable watts from the system.

You build for a living?

Btw, where did you get that grill for the major?

Thanks Blake, I grew up in Asheboro.

Very nice case, but I wish the window was a little bigger.
I hear ya, and believe me I thought long and hard about the size/design of that window...down to the millimeter. Personally, I don't like showing stuff like braces (the top of this window is about 5mm below one that runs the depth of the case) or drive "cages", things that are of no interest. Plus, its a mid tower, everything is squeezed in a much smaller space. So I opted for the design with no hard angles or edges and a strong diagonal line. But I agree with you, I'd like to see it bigger too. Thanks for your comment.

I wish, I have a million ideas, the kinds of resources a fill time gig would afford would allow me to do things I will prolly never be able to do on my own. Plating, powder coating, lasers....... ;)

Its an Audiobahn subwoofer grill. Just so happens the standard 6" size in speakers and subs is just right to fit over a 172mm fan. I made the "shroud" out of sheet metal and rivets. Could you possibly go into more detail about tapping into the power supply for the AC fan? I am sorely lacking in knowledge about electronics. But I am learning.

Thanks again for all of the comments and input. Much better than my old haunt..

Sorry I bailed on this thread, search is broken. :(

To tap the AC inside the psu was pretty simple actually. I just took an old lampcord and soldered the two leads onto the existing soldered points inside where the psu got it's power from the plug. I just tinned up the cord leads, then heated the existing leads inside and stuck them on. The current draw for the fan was so low I never worried too much about the connection.

Then I just ran the cord out the same place where the other wires leave the psu and over to a switch in the front panel, then to a small hole drilled in the side panel to the input of the fan.

Speaker grill eh?

Brilliant. I would have never thought of that... :D
