First overnight with vista, am I missing something?

Well I have vista with areo 3d bs enabled, I use gpu and cpu folding, the cpu folding on core 1, gpu on core 0. I set up gpu folding, but it only said 18-23% cpu usage, I said fuck it and let it run because for all intensive purposes it was working. I come back this morning, find out GPU folding WAS working last night, but when I came back, still said 20% cpu.

on XP it always worked the core up to 100%, but on 22% it did a full nights work. I'm wondering, I got it so it cuts signal from the monitors after 10 mins. Does areo have anything to do with it saying cpu0 was only working at 18-23%? and the monitors being turned off (by the computer) was what actually made the gpu folding work?

Stanford themselves seem to believe that the GPU client shouldn't take up 100% of the CPU core's time. In theory, it really shouldn't be taking up 100% of the CPU core anyway, since the GPU is really doing the work. I'd say if things are running at seemingly the correct speeds, it's probably reporting it just fine.

Vista runs DX9 slightly differently to XP.
So while XP needs 100% of one cores time to poll the GPU client, Vista only needs ~20% of the cores time.

Gpu folding uses DX9 libraries? I didn't know that. I am just not seeing how vista can take off 80% of the load of my cpu, but at the same time make gaming slower.

80% off your CPU in theory, but remember the GPU is being sucked dry at the same time.

One more question, im having problems. Gpu client runs fine, runs as fast as it did on xp, but now I am having a problem, every time I quit (which im usually at 50% when it happens) for the 3rd time now ive gotten "early_end_unit" error after quitting out (x button) which always worked for my in xp w/o problem, but for some reason I can't start the client up (gpu folding) w/o it rejecting the unit.

Cpu folding is just peachy.

Vista, being a tad more secure then XP likes things done in a slightly different manor. Give this a shot, finish a work unit and shut down the client. Right click on your shortcut or quick launch or what ever you use to start the client and this time choose to run as an administrator. If I’m right you will be presented with an un-configured client as in no name team number etc. Fill all that in as you did before and allow a new core and work unit to download.

Now, exit the client and double click on it normally and it should pick up right where it left off and should now save your work as well.

If you decide to go with the SMP client you will find the same rules apply. It’s also possible the firewall will ask you to approve the new connection which would be normal.

I can't start the client as admin from a shortcut, only from the actual exe, starting it as admin does nothing to save the unit when I quit (and open it as admin again) . And opening the client as admin doesn't present me with a fresh client (w/ no client info). just works off the same stuff.

How do you start SMP with a shortcut? I'm using a batch file (*.bat) to start, and control-c to end.

I have not set up my .batch start file to run as admin? Is this possible?

I actually put my shortcut in quick launch. Once established you can edit the command line to add -forceasm.

Since I keep my taskbar hidden and I minimize the client I never see it unless I want to.
