Working on my first real OC at the moment.

Q9550 E0
Asus P5Q PRO
4GB PC8500 G.Skill

I'm running stable at 3.6 right now after a 1 hour OCCT test and a 17 hour Prime95 test with no errors. Idle is 27-32 depending on temp in my room, and max temp during the 17 hour Prime95 was 45 (though it was probably sort of cool in my room).

Vcore is at 1.25
RAM is at 2.06
SBcore is at 1.10
NBcore is at 1.26
VTT is at 1.26

Just wondering how this is looking so far? I'm probably going to keep pushing the OC at these voltages rather then scale them back, but since this is my first extensive OC I was just curious about my voltages mostly. Do they look decent for 3.6 or are they slightly high or anything?

Thanks guys

Well on my... too high to count OC,and my q9550 numbers are not even close to yours. I am jealous!! (granted I do have a c1)

Congratz and keep pushing her! (3.8-4.0 should be easily doable for you with those numbers @ 3.6)

Your coltages are all very low, you could go quite a bit higher if needed. Just keep the Vcore < 1.5 (imo), and don't let the chip get over 70c if possible (it most likely will with IBT)

What are you running for cooling?

I would keep the Vcore less than 1.4v if you want to keep it for awhile

Your prob getting close on the stock vcore as my Q9650 only likes 406x9 at stock 1.25v

Put
FSB: 423
CPU Voltage: 1.5v
SBV: 1.20v
NBV: 1.50-1.55v
FSBV: 1.40v

4.0Ghz

If you think your cpu is kicked in from the factory. Do this settings.

my older 65nm q6600 does 450x8 = 3.6ghz on water.
so you should be getting at least that one air.

try to maximize ur memory and CPU together at around 3.8ghz or 4.

the contributors on this thread got me set up for my stable overclock, well worth the read - there are some experts whom are very helpfull, great place to start. Because the board and cpu are common, there's a lot of discussion

Well, did a bit of tweaking this morning.

Got on and tried to see how far I could push my overclock without needing to up the voltages. After a few fails I decided I would work on it later, but going back to my original settings (those in the OP) wouldn't let me post. Not sure why.

I didn't want to up the voltage and stay at 3.6 since I would have felt ripped off lol, so I tweaked a few things and am now sitting at 448x8.5 (3.808) and am about to finish a 1 hour OCCT test without errors. Assuming it finishes up error-free, I will run a short Prime95 test while I do some school work and then a long one overnight tonight.

vcore @ 1.285
ram @ 2.1
nb @ 1.28
sb @ 1.10
vtt @ 1.28

Assuming this stays stable, do these numbers still look good to you guys?

Thanks

Does anyone know why I would not be able to run previously stable settings? For whatever reason, I can't even boot at the settings in my OP even though I had them tested and stable two days ago.

Check your ram settings? maybe your running the ram too high (ie: its at like 1132 when you only have 1066)

I've been reading Q9550 OC topics and am wondering about my voltages. I keep seeing posts with people doing 3.6 on 1.2v or 3.8 on 1.25, etc. Ever since I got stable in the OP, I absolutely cannot boot @ 3.6 with 1.25 or 1.26. I can boot 3.8 at 1.29ish but it's not stable and I probably need 1.31 or 1.32 for stability.

I'm still sort of new to this, but is there something else I can change to keep the vcore down? I've been upping other voltages too and my temps have been going up steadily because of it.

I know all chips are different, but it seems mine isn't performing as well as many other E0s.

EDIT: Ok, weird. So I couldn't boot 425x8.5 at all under 1.27v, but I just randomly tried 450x8.5 at 1.26 and it booted fine. I have the NB and VTT at 1.28 each and RAM at 2.06. I'm going to Prime over night since I'm leaving soon. I have no idea if this will be stable and I would probably like to tweak the non-vcore voltages, but is it unusual that 3.6 wouldn't boot at 1.26 but 3.8 would?

Sorry to keep bumping this thread lol. I think I figured out a solution as I just got home to find my ~14 hour Prime95 test going strong.

450x8.5 = 3.825
vcore = 1.26
vtt = 1.28
ram = 2.06
sb = 1.1
nb = 1.3

After I was able to boot in at lower vcores, I continued to fail Prime. I tried a few things and I'm almost certain that the NB is what was holding me back. After failing with it at 1.28, I've run a stable Prime test for ~14 hours with it at 1.3. My temps look decent as well and overall I'm very pleased :)

Do you guys recommend trying to lower any of these voltages if I plan to stay at this OC 24/7? Also, my Prime test was a Large FTT for ~14 hours. Should I also go ahead and do a Small or Blend just to be certain?

Screw prime and do Intelburntest and call it a day.

I sometimes wonder why people sit there waiting to check if its stable when ibt does it in a fraction of the time.

For Prime95. you do want to do small FFT instead. Large FFT or Blend is for RAM stability instead...

I have my E0 at 450x8.5 for 3.825GHz at 1.31825V small FFT 24hr stable. However, I do agree that you should try Intel Burn Test and call it a day instead. It is much faster, puts a more efficient load than Prime or OCCT and will probably bring your temps to somewhere that is uncomfortable.

If your 45C is on Large FFT, your temps on small FFT is probably gonna be around 10C higher and for Intel Burn Test probably around 15-25C higher.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm pretty happy with the OC right now and feel it's stable. I might do the IBT but I'll probably wait until I get my fans in later this week. Cooling is okay right now but not amazing due to a few bad stock case fans that need to be replaced. Anyway, so far I've run two 1-hour OCCT tests, one 15 hour Large FTT P95 test, one 5 hour Blend test (2 hours of this I was also playing a game), and currently have a Small FTT running at 2 hours and going strong. Overall I feel it's pretty stable but I'll look to push it more later on.

For my first real OC I'm very pleased with the clock, temps, and voltages. I'd like to try and lower the RAM voltage a bit and maybe even mess with the vcore, but I'm pretty satisfied for now. I'll push 4.0 later :)

Let us know how it goes, I have a very similar setup... I managed to hit 3.6ghz with everything on stock last night, but then again I could probably cook a steak on my NB, curse you Gigabyte!
