Greetings all,
I've been browsing around [H] for a while and finally around to starting a case mod. It's not going to be anything fancy since I've never done it before and because I'm giving away the final product. My sister-in-law's computer died and she asked me if I could piece one together from stuff I have lying around. Not a big deal. In terms of a part list of what I'm going to use:

P3 or K6-2
Generic 52x cdrom
floppy
sound blaster pci
4 Meg AGP vid card (forget the brand right now)
generic psu

I'm going to have to go out and purchase a new modem and cd burner, since I don't have any of those in my spare parts cabinet. I've already cleaned up the case and stripped out the old parts. I sanded it down, which was a giant pain since the previous owner smoked heavily (thick yellow coating over the paint) and gave it one coat of primer. I doubt I'm painting it correctly, but it looks decent so far.

I'm going to paint the case a deep blue and a bright yellow. The front, top, half of the side panel will be blue. The rear, bottom half of the panels will be yellow. Sorry for the crappy image, but I don't have a pic of the actual case or access to a decent photo editor since I'm at work. On the top of the case, I'm playing on having a big yellow smiley face. I'll post some actual pics in the next day or two. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Again, sorry for the ridiculously bad pic, but I wanted to give an example of what I was thinking.

Welcome to [H]. We can always use new blood. I like the color scheme. Are you going to do any other mods or is it just paint?

Just a coat of paint for my first try. When I get around to making one for myself, I'll get a little more adventurous.

My work bench. :)

The case after it was stripped and loaded with a single coat of primer.

The front.

The left panel half finished

I still have figured out how exactly I'm going to do the template for the smiley face

It's not there yet, but I'm making decent progress. The only issue that I've had so far was when I painted the front. I layed down the blue a little too thick in one are and had to sand a run out. I put down three coats of primer and paint. Although, I think I'm only going to do two coats of clear coat.

Looking good so far. Good list of things to attempt for your first time out.

However..... if she's getting a "free" pc outta this, at least make her get you a decient camera! The PC looks good, but I've seen better pictures from an Etch-A-Sketch!

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted the pics. Not sure why some of them have the lines, but it's actually a 6 mega pix camera. Really good camera, so I'm not sure why some of those pictures turned out so bad...

I got the case all painted up last night. Doesn't look too bad, but I am a just a little irritated that the smiley face didn't come out right. It seems that I didn't press down the edges enough.

The opposite side panel.

The top...

I still need to sand it down and lay down a clear coat tonight. Hopefully I'll have this rapped up by tomorrow so I can get it out before this weekend. Won't have time to set it up on Saturday since I'm going paintballing. :D I'm still debating on whether I should just paint the entire top blue. I'm pretty irritated that it didn't work out.

Well.... I screwed up. I must have marked one of the side panels wrong because I rotated the paint 90 degrees. So now I have to sand it down completely and repaint it. Insert the 'measure twice' adage here.

if you modded a case perfectly the first time you tried.....you'd be a gawd....keep up the good work!
