This would be my first LCD and was thinking of the 2007WFP.
The price right now is $359 with free shipping.
Anyone have a Dell coupon they want to let go? :D

I have read a lot of the threads regarding the panel lottery and banding issues.
I take it the banding problem was fixed is rev A02?
What about the different panel issue, is the S-IPS that much different then an S-PVA?
I will be gaming, web surfing, and watching movies, would you recommend this monitor or not?

Thanks.

I got my 20% off coupon on Fleabay for a buck and it worked fine. (YMMV) As far as the panel lottery goes...it seems to just be Asia/Europe getting most of the S-PVA panels but I wouldn't delay your purchase too long just to be safe. Don't worry about banding on the recent revisions...dead pixels are a possibility with any lcd monitor but if you do have issues then Dell will cross-ship a new one within 21 days and then a refurb (not always a bad thing) thereafter.

I do recommend this monitor for just about any use as long as you aren't bothered by aggessive anti-glare coatings.

joemama thx for the reply.
Would you care to explain some more on the anti-glare coating?
I have had TV's with an AG coating, some were no issue others were.

What are your thoughts on it.
Can you see it, weird texture, weird color?
Does it bother you?
What other adverse effects does it have?

Also do you see any ghosting on this panel in fast shooters?

Every LCD has either anti-glare coating or a glossy screen. You can notice anti-glare coating easily, on a white or light grey background. It bothers some, but most are okay with it. I'm sure you've used an LCD without a glossy screen at some point. If you didn't notice the anti-glare coating then, I wouldn't worry about it.

The 2007FPW handles ghosting exceptionally well in real-world tests, even better than some 4ms TN panels. Ghosting will not be an issue unless you play Counterstrike competitively with a low mouse sensitivity - no LCD can hold up to the speed at which experts whip their view around.

Ok thx for the info fellas.
I think I will pull the trigger on this now.
Does the panel come with a DVI cable or do I need to pick one up?
It's a single link DVI-D cable correct?

Thanks for the help.

im with you. i think i want this monitor too.

the only fps i play is still the original UT game of the year edition.

ANY problems at all with playing widescreen with games that anyone has experienced? so far i've read nothing but good reviews it seems like you/we should just pull the trigger and see how the monitor is. you can always ship it back free if problems, though i doubt it.

lets take the jump........lets get them dells!!!
i know i will

LOL
I am with ya, I plan on getting one.
I mostly play Americas Army and some BF2.
I just want to make sure it will work ok with fast paced again with little or no ghosting.
Checking out cablemakers right now for a cable.

As far as the anti-glare coating goes...I am very sensitive to it and when I say "aggressive anti-glare coating" I mean that it does the job better than any I've seen. Even flash pictures taken straight on doesn't give much of a reflection on these things...the downside is that you get a fine mesh effect as if you had a stocking over your head when looking at bright white backgrounds and such. If you aren't bothered by other AG screens then this one may or may not be an issue with you.

edit- yes, the DVI cable is included along with an already connected VGA.

Ahh,
Is it like the screen door effect or not quite that bad?
Good to hear a DVI cable is included.

Well after some more research I just pulled that trigger.
I hope I am happy with it.
I get 21 days to return it with no restocking fee right?

I don't know if a restocking fee applies for a return for refund within 21 days...but I do know they will cross-ship a new panel (with return shipping pre-paid) if you recieve one with problems.

Well my order shipped today, But it shows Est. Delivery Date: 11/20/2006-11/22/2006, which is 5-7 days.
What the hell happened to the free 3-5 day shipping?

It will most likely arrive within 3 days...they're just covering their ass for worst case scenario.

Awesome, I hope so. :D

Thanks for all the help fellas, I will keep you posted on my new toy. :)

I have 4 between home and office. Its a really nice monitor. I've had zero problems with any of them so far.

USB ports on the side rock, should be std for all monitors.

dude!!!
pm me let me know how it is!!!!!!!
show me some pics!!!!!

I have two 19" (1901FP or 1905FP, can't remember at the moment) at work, and they have the same AG coating. It doesn't bother me, actually it's a help because during the spring/summer months the glare would be horrible without it (window in my office).

I understand how Joemama feels too, and think he's got a valid opinion; he likes screens similar to Dell's 17" widescreen Inspiron laptops, some of which are pretty glossy and are a bit brighter for not having the coating, and a little less diffused. I'd say that if regular antiglare coatings don't bother you, the Dell coating won't. The only reason I wouldn't pull the trigger on this display (and btw, I just did today) is if you can't stand any AG coating at all. If that's the case, make sure you have your display in an area where glare won't be an issue, and choose something with "teh shiney" effect instead. :)

lemme ask you lone and joemama how does this glare affect graphic editing? would any of the colors seem to be off?
i think im goin dell 2007 wfp but want to be sure

i love my 2007FP the non widescree version of the monitor it is so nice and im glad i spent the extra money from my backlight bleeding like a mofo acer 1951

Well I have had mine since Wednesday and I have to say I have mixed feelings about it.
It is a nice display with an awesome picture; however the AG coating creates a yellowish off-color about it.
With a little tweaking it’s not too bad but I still see it.
The stocking mess look on the screen is annoying as hell too, but I sure I will get used to it.
I have noticed some bad banding in certain games and the black levels are horrible unless you run in multimedia mode; which I do.

The main problem is my 7800GTX can’t really keep up with some games at 1680x1050 with the eye candy on. :(
This means I have to upgrade yet again, something I really didn’t want to do, I am sick of upgrading all the time.
And another issue is the new display is so bright it makes my old 19” CRT looks like ass right next to it, so now I have to buy another one because I can’t live without dual monitors anymore. :D

One this i forgot to metion is about the whole 60hz refresh thing.
Because my card can't keep 60FPS going I get slow downs to 30 or below.
For this reason I have to ren with vsynch off, which I fucking hate.
Tearing drives me nuts, so that is something to think about for anyone thinking about buying an LCD.

Switching to Desktop mode should take care of the banding.

If you're having trouble running games at the resolutions you'd like, make sure you have the latest Forceware drivers, and use 1:1 pixel mapping to run your game at a lower resolution. Sure, you'll have a couple of black bars around the sides of your screen, but the game will be sharp (not stretched) and will run fine.

So far, I've only played Oblivion on the 2007WFP. With a Sapphire Radeon X1800GTO2 512MB, it does well at 1680x1050. However, I had a stuck pixel (couldn't fix with Deal Pixel Tool), and my eyes can't get over the difference in vertical screen area from my 19" CRT (only in desktop apps, movies and games are fine). So I called Dell today, and I'm upgrading to a 2407WFP. I know that with my current GPU I'll have to run with black bars for gaming, but I'm fine with that. Their service when I called was topnotch; they apologized for the pixel, are sending a UPS call tag for the 2007, helped me keep my discount on the new purchase, and upgraded my free shipping from ground to next-day. It's a lot of cash to plunk down, but I plan to have this screen for a long time (upgraded to the 5yr warranty for that reason), so I have to make the right decision now. After all, my 19" CRT has been with me since 1999. :)

LoneWolf: I don't know what kind of 19" monitor you had, but I just measured my 19" Viewsonic aperture-grille from 1999, and vertically the viewing area is only a smidgen (about 1/8" inch) taller, which is impossible to notice. With the increased number of horizontal lines on the 2007wfp (1050 vs 1024), it would be a wash.

JRT, I'm right with you on the black levels, based on viewing xvids/DVD on my S-IPS model. It's just not acceptable. If I switch to Multimedia Mode, it may be marginally better, but video definition takes a dive.

Also, for whatever reasons, these types of videos can look splotchy if it's not bright daylight. Defects REALLY show up at full-screen, which I supposed wouldn't be the case if we were all playing HD content all the time, but who is?

Sadly, since watching videos is half the purpose of this monitor, I may have to return it. Ironic, since it is an S-IPS with no defects that I've found.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 900P. Impressive for its day, now eclipsed by newer/better. There may not be a huge difference from top-to-bottom, but when you've had a screen for a decade, you get adjusted to it, and I'm a bit of a curmudgeon on some things (just ask my IBM Model M keyboard).

I think an additional part of my problem is that having a standard-aspect monitor, I used to be able to read an entire forum post at once without having to move my eyes that much going from left to right. The new wide-aspect has so far been a bit harder on my eyes, but only when reading text, which is sharp, but I think I'm not used to scanning across such a wide screen. I could have (and would have) considered a 2007FP, but without HDCP, no sale. This particular issue may persist for a bit with the 2407WFP as well, since it's still a wide screen, but it seemed a better choice than some of the 22" widescreens I would have liked to consider, such as the Samsung 225BW which I looked at when I was at Sam's Club this weekend.

While I know better than to make a complete judgement based on a store's test images, the screen didn't seem as bright as the 2007WFP, colors were more washed out (I'm guessing this was due in part to the 6-bit TN panel as opposed to an 8-bit S-PVA) and it didn't appear to do as well with fast-moving images (they were running a fish-tank screensaver with a lot of colors that actually made for a reasonable comparison, especially with similar models on display). Color uniformity around the edges of the display (esp at the top) did not seem great, though this could be because it's an always-on display unit, or that the consistency varies from screen to screen and a poor one was chosen as the display model. I also wanted 1:1 pixel mapping, which AFAIK the Sammy doesn't have.

Perhaps I'm just being super-picky. But I'd like a display I'll be happy with for another eight years. Hopefully the 2407WFP will be it.

which one of the sammy's would offer 1:1? i thought the 225bw did?
but u know me, still n00b

Just ordered my wife and I each 1 of these also :)

Can I hijack this post and add something to it so I dont start a whole new post.......

What Vid cards you guys have and how well do they work

My wife and I both have GF 6800's

I just got my 2007WFP on Monday. Been messing with the settings, and watched a few movies tonight. It's an RT803 panel, S-IPS. All I can say is wow, very impressed. Damn! I need another one, so I can have one for each eye, lol.
I'm running an EVGA 7900GT Signature Series and have had no trouble with any games at native res. SW Lego 2 looks awesome. Played a few rounds of UT4K, training day, with 4 players, no ghosting, no lag.

Well, now I have the 2407WFP.

I'm getting used to it, I haven't had it long enough to make accurate judgements other than "Day-um, that's HUGE!". One thing, however. It has made me see that the 2007WFP (even the S-PVA version I had) is a pretty doggone good display. Colors were incredibly vibrant on my 2007WFP (they're good on this display, but color temperature seems a little colder), and the brightness was off the charts (if I'd had it longer, I think I would have lowered it a notch), uniformity was good, and I had minimal backlight bleed on mine.

I think I'll really end up liking my 2407WFP over time, and I think it will be a little easier on my eyes, which spend a lot of time in front of a display at work and home (I'm in IT). But for someone who either can't afford the 2407 or finds it overkill, or doesn't have the vid-card to drive it, I'd strongly consider the 2007WFP. I think most enthusiast users will find both the S-IPS and the S-PVA versions beat a lot of TN-panel 19-22" widescreens available.

The S-PVA panel may be fine for some people but as far as I'm concerned the time for considering a 2007FPW ended about 2 weeks ago. Glad I got mine before the S-IPS's were gone..

I just received my 2007FPW today, which I ordered yesterday. According to the "dell lottery" thread in these forums it's an RT803 and "overwhelming evidence" suggests it's an S-IPS.

I friend of mine also purchased his a few days before I did and received an RT803 (S-IPS).

Ok, got both of my monitors. They were both shipped from Texas and made in Mexico. Both monitors were revision A03 and are the RT803.

Both moitors prety much worked well out of the box, only had to turn the brightness down 1 notch.

I will mention 1 thing though, and this is not a negative thing against the monitors, its more of a heads up if you have a Dell PC

My PC is home built and my wife's is a Dell, both PC's have the exact same GF6800 vid card and before connecting the monitors I made sure all drivers were up to date. I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers straight from Nvidia.

On my PC I plugged in the monitor, the PC found it, set the res. to 1680x1050 and all was well.

On my wife's PC I plugged the monitor in, the PC found it but there was no 1680x1050 offered in the vid card settings. Basically there was no wide screen res. offered.

After much cussing and messing I called dell and spent close to 45 minutes on the phone trying different things. The thing that finally fixed it? I had to download Dells version of the Nvidia driver from Dells website, the driver from Nvidia's website did not work with my wife's all Dell set up.

Oh and to answer my own post about how well my 6800 works, it works fine so far.

Just ordered mine yesterday, I've rolled the dice and either set myself up to be very happy or very upset. the items mentioned all over forums with the S-IPS and PVA Panels are definatly concerns for me, but this dell monitor fits the budget and gives the performance i'm looking for.... I just really really hope that i am one of the lucky ones to get a unit with the S-IPS panel and no dead pixels or defects ;) bites nails......
