For gaming you're going to want something larger than a 19" by far. Have you looked at the U2410? It's got the ergonomic options you want, decent input lag (>20ms in game mode), it's an H-IPS panel so it will have wide viewing angles, and has a soundbar attachment option. It's not perfect, but you won't find one under $1000 that's even close to perfect. Runs about $630 with shipping.
There really is no stand out winner amongst 19" class panels currently; it's not like it used to be where there was a definitive "gaming" panel. Everything is pretty much stuck at 5ms response time (an unaccelerated panel), but color accuracy out of the box has improved over the years. This is a good example of what you should go for:
You won't be seeing 19" panels with this resolution much longer; so grab it up if that's important to you. Performance wise, most all 5ms rated panels perform the same (very so so), and there aren't many 2ms rated ones left. 1680x1050 is a good resolution all around, but 1400x900 would be your next best choice for overall comfort and text clarity; as well as game resolution compatibility.
How I miss the times when someone would say "LCD gaming?", and the answer would be unequivocally "VX922!"
