If you're spending that kind of money may as well get a 2gb stick of ram instead of 2x1... Just to be more future proof ;P

I am REALLY confused as to the logic of sticking with old pata cables for the hard drive.

Are you saying that you may use this new hard drive externally with the usb adapter?

everything looks good to me

Yea I really wanna stick wit the big hard drive for storage purposes. But I already have an 80Gig IDE that i want to reuse.

You'll be better off with 2x1GB because of Dual Channel RAM configuration.

You'll also be better off with SATA for the larger HDD. The 80GB is probably slow, and you'll be better off replacing it with a newer SATA drive. I'd keep the 80GB as a backup drive in an external enclosure. All that fast hardware will be yearning for a faster drive. I notice a big difference between my 160GB IDE, and my 160GB SATA.

Whats the difference in performance between your current setup and your old setup

2nd Computer:
Alienware 7700 Gaming Laptop
3.2Ghz P4 800FSB
1Gb DDR2 PC2-4200 Ram
256Mb GeForce 6800 Go
40Gb HDD
17" WS LCD Display

I'm just wondering because I'm also planning on getting the E6600 with a 680i motherboard w/ 8800gtx. I just need to know if the performance differnce is worth the extra $1000 (that's what it would be for me)

Prolly a big difference. The laptop being a go graphics card and a single core system. AND since it's a laptop it overheats like a mother! So yea... prolly worth it cause I'm keeping the alienware and upgrading the older one with all this new stuff.
