Heres my build, your 2 cents would be appreciated :

CPU : C2D E6600

Mobo : Asus P5W DH Deluxe

Ram : G Skill 2048MB Kit CL5 (DDR2-800) 2GBNQ

GFX : Asus EAX1950PRO

PSU : Enermax Liberty 620W

I might want to overclock it to 3 Ghz, will that G skill Ram work?

Which cpu cooler would you guys suggest, i cant seem to pick one on my own...right now im leaning toward a Thermalright SI-128 but i have heard it can be difficult to mount, if you can suggest a better one im all ears :)

So you plan on goin crossfire sometime? If not, stick to a P965Express or nForce 650Ultra when they come out.

I'd go for the Tuniq Tower, Scythe Ninja Plus, Thermaltake Big Typhoon, or Zalman CNPS9500. There's a CL4 g.skill kit for $205 at the egg. 3Ghz would only require DDR2-667 (9*333.33=3.0Ghz). You could certainly push that E6600 much higher, 9*400=3.6Ghz. The NQ or PK sticks would suffice for such an OC. In fact, they should both be able to reach even higher.

I'd also look into the Corsair HX620w PSU.

I will most likely go crossfire at some point.
There is no egg here, im in germany ;)
Those CL5's are gonna cost me 212 Euros, anyhow i just had the thought that if i only need it to do 667 those CL5's might work with CL4 timings unless im missing something.

About the Corsair, i read a review that said its quite noisy also i already own a Liberty 500 and its a dream so thats why im picking Enermax again but if you guys can sell me on the HX ill get that one since the price difference is quite small between the two.

The Tuniq does look sweet, i would just need to know how far if at all it hangs over the edge of the mainboard, so if anyone reading this uses a P5W with a Tuniq and could let me know and could also comment on how tough it was to install, that would be awesome :)

The Thermalright SI-128 is a good cooler as well and I think it fits pretty much every mobo... ;)

I've done some more research and since i cant find the Tuniq anywhere and im pretty sure now that the SI-128 will fit fine im goin with it. I'm about to pull the trigger on this so if anyone has anything else to say please do so now ;)

I plan to overclock it to maybe 3Ghz at some point.

Any more thoughts? Post em ;)

CPU, Mobo, PSU and Cooler have arrived. I got some questions. The E6600 is Week 31B(L631B) i think, any of you know anything about this week? The P5W doesnt have a sticker on the Bios chip, its in the upper right corner a slim sticker at the end it says 1407 so im guessing that is the bios revision? On the chip itself is like a small | in black marker.

I would go for a Zalman 9500/9700 HSF. Other than that, your build looks good.

If the Si-128 gives me too much trouble ill look around for a different cooler. Still waiting for some other Hardware before i can start workin.

Update :

Building it now, hope i didnt use too much AS5.

Also, I cant quite tell if the heatsink is sitting right, how does this look?

Im on the system right now, it seems to work fine.

I got a few questions for anyone who might stop by in the thread. whats a Tjunction? (under core temp)

And is it me or does the P5W not have a lot of temp sensors.

I think one of em is broken its constantly at 94 degrees or am i in trouble?

CPU : 29

System : 34(im guessing thats MB temp?)

and HD : 33

AUX : 94-98

Update : now its at 127 degrees, the NB (the big one) heatsink is hot a little burning but i can keep my finger on it no problem.

Update 2 : Ok so this sensor is supposedly just not hooked up to anything? Any way to find out for sure? Im pretty certain that @ 128 degrees my board wouldve fried already or am i wrong. Help me out guys, im startin to worry :(

That's way too much paste. You need about 1/5'th of that, in the center.

Remember, mosfets need cooling too. Heatpipes only transport heat, they don't dissipate it. That's for heatsinks to do. Put those optional fans for cooling those heatsinks, on.

I followed the directions on the AS5 homepage after a lot of research on these forums and i think its fine since coretemp shows 29/30 degrees for each cpu. Also i cant put that fan on since the si-128 is covering that, it doesnt matter anyway since the mobo is mounted upside down so the heatpipe doesnt do a thing. I use speedfan, pcprobe 2 shows the same temps except that pcprobe freaks out over my low rpm fan but thats about it.

No way the Arctic Silver website tells you to use that much paste.

That's enough AS5 for like 8 or 10 CPUs right there...

It says a line down the middle and let the heatsink spread it, i did that.

But wouldnt you admit that as long as the idle temps are in the 30s as they are with me, its fine?

Sure, you should be fine. You certainly won't do any harm by putting more thermal compound than necessary, but some of us old skoolers have the mindset that you want the thermal paste to be as thin coverage as humanly possibly for good thermal transfer.

Idle in the 30s is nice and cool, now load that sucker up and overclock it some too. :)

Im gonna start load testing soon, ill keep checking my NB temp with my finger to see if it gets too hot. If it starts acting up ill rip off that cap and put a fan on there. Unless i got it wrong and having your cpu under load doesnt affect the northbridge, anyone know? Also the mosfets are cooled by the si-128 as well and for good measure theres a side fan blowing air in as well so think im fine in that department. The only thing that worries me is the NB and maybe that bogus heat sensor a little.

Ok now that i closed the lid the system temp is at 48 degrees, hope thats not too high.
CPU temp is at 31 degrees and HD temp at 35.

How can i set the Ram to 800 Mhz? Post says its at PC-5300 and i cant seem to find the setting for it in the bios.

is there a ram divider setting?

Actually i consulted the manual and apparently its under the Jumperfree configuration and then i gotta set AI Overclocking to manual then i can set the dram frequency....go figure
