First build woes and troubles..help!

System is as follows.

Asus A8N-SLi non deluxe.
AMD 64 3700+ San Diego
1 Gig Corsair value ram
Leadtek 6800GT
420w PSU
WD 37gb 10k rpm HDD

With just these wired up and the system turned on, i get all the fans running, CPU, GPU, Chipset, and all case fans just fine. GC and motherboard have green Leds and appear to be fine. However, there is NO output to the monitor. I have checked the connections over and over again, including a CPU connection problem which i corrected (im pretty sure anyway). Is my MB or GPU totally screwed or am i missing something?
 
Try booting outside the case with just the mobo, one stick of RAM, cpu, heatsink/fan, video card, and boot drive. If it works, then the mobo is probably shorting.

Having another system around would also help, as you can swap parts around to check for dead stuff.

 
Be sure you speaker is hooked up and listen to any "beep" (POST or Power On Self Test) codes that it may be telling you.

From what you have said here, it could be a number of things.

Easy things to check:

1) if your motherboard has a 12v CPU header (plug-in) did you connect it?

2) did you plug in your video card to the power supply? (look at the back, it needs powe just like a hard disk drive)

3) are all the components properly seated into the motherboard? (take them all out and put them back in, be sure they fit properly)

...if all of that fails, just plug in the video card, one stick of memory and the CPU and see if you get activity on the monitor. If so, then add one component at a time.
