well i have to say, they were definitely right when they said you feel much better about yourself and your system when you do it yourself instead of having someone else do it for you.

few questions though--



for optimal boot time, what order should i have my drives boot in -- i currently have my harddrive booting followed by my optical drives and then my floppy.

i see all these pictures of CPU-Z system specs: is this something i have to download or does it come included with win xp?

and i want to put my cpu under some stress to test it out.. what programs were good for this again? was it prime95?
 
1.I had floppy go first, then HD, then Optical drives.
2. You can download CPU-Z online google it.
3. Im pretty sure benchmarks has something for CPU stress testing.

I have my hard drive as #1 and everything else disabled. It's very rare I need to boot from a floppy or anything and if I do, I just change it back for that time.

CPU-Z is not included with XP, just google it, should be easy to find.

Run Prime95 and Memtest86 for 24 hours each. Should not have ANY errors.
 
when i'm running those programs is it all right to browse aroudn the computer/the internet, or should the computer be strictly running those programs?

What software out there do you guys use to monitor your computer temps from inside of windows?
 
When you're running Prim95, you can pretty much do anything you want with your computer (in fact, doing more stuff increases the stress on CPU, and that's good :)) As for memtest86, well you have to boot it off a floppy, and while it's running, it's in DOS, so you really can't do anything with it then.

For quickest boot, set your first boot device to your hard drive. That way it won't look at your floppy and CD-Rom (Which takes time).
