First Build - Any suggestions / Advice?

This is my first time selecting components and putting them together and I'm a little nervous. I've put a few systems together before, but never with parts I've chosen so any advice or suggestions here I'd really appreciate. Will the parts here work together well?

MOBO
Processor
Ram
HD
CD/DVD Reader
CD/DVD Writer
Case 1 or Case 2

The video card I'm waiting to see what the prices will do before I decide on one, but I'm leaning towards a 6800 PCI-Express or 6800 GT PCI-Express if the prices drop. Will I get a large benifit from having 2gig verses 1gig of the ram? Should I get a different power source than what comes with the case? How important is it to have the temp gauge? I think thats all the questions I have for now.

Thanks for any advice / suggestions!

The only advice that I can offer up is that a different power supply is a must for either of those cases.
 
As above - save yourself a few $ and get an AMD64 for greater speed in gaming. If the PC is purely for multimedia work, stick with the Intel.

I would suggest that 1Gb will be perfectly adequate for the moment.

If you feel you are going to be upgrading this system in the future, get a case and PSU which you won't need to change when you upgrade the rest. By this I mean don't skimp on either.
 
I am building it to be a gameing PC, but I know hardly anything about AMD. Any suggestions on a good mobo and processor that are fairly cheap? Also, what is there to look for in a case other than how it looks? Thanks again for the help.
 
in terms of case

twogood brands are lian-li & cooler master

you want something that is aluminum to help dissipate the heat and has enough 5.25" and 3.5" bays to allow for what you need in terms of later upgrades

make sure it has enough fan slots, you want a couple in front and back, the amount depends on how much overclocking you will be doing and what fans you are gonna use

its nice to have a case that has a blowhole(slot on the top), helps dissipate a lot of heat.

That should be some good advice, i'm sure others can add more
