First Big Networking Project

I was recently told about a project by an Electric Engineering buddy, that I can't divulge at the moment. But in this project I will be the Head I.T. guy for this project. So I will be putting together a I.T. Research and Development Team. I will have to look for people who at the moment would like to volunteer until the man who is starting the company gets it up and running. I think I will have to scout around like Universities or along that lines?

This is my first time working with a start-up company. So I believe it will be really good growing with the company from the ground up. I will finally be able to use my Computer and Networking skills in a leadership role. I have to get people in place to do Web Application Design, Setup Databases, possibly Programmers because I think he wants in-house Monitoring designed software, and Networking people.

So does anyone have any suggestions for a first timer putting hardware in place for a small business? Because he said, he just wants stuff in place at the moment that will handle the job. And down the line I can add too. Don't what budget he will give me yet for purchasing. It's going to handle about 6000 customers. Everything will also be used with wireless and I believe telephones will be incorporated in the process.

Its dynamic for every customer, no one can really tell you what will suit his needs best, thats your job.

As far as configuration, have someone with experience on standby if you run into trouble, and don't be afraid to ask for help, its better to ask than beat your head against a wall for 13 hours
