As stated in the thread title, this is my first attempt at overclocking. I'm trying to get the highest overclock possible without making any changes to ram settings on the system in my sig. I read the [H] oc'ing faq and decided to go with the easiest method with is raising the cpu fsb. I locked the pci bus frequency as recomended, disabled "cool n quiet" and changed the cpu config settings in the mobo from "auto" to "manual". Next I raised the fsb in 5mhz increments until the system locked up. I was able to achieve 220mhz X 10= 2200mhz before locking the system up. I then lowered it to 2150mhz just to be safe. I think this was an awesome overclock considering I am using value ram and not changing any other settings.
The one issue I am running into is that for some reason, I loose my oc after my system has been on for a few hours. It's like the mobo automatically drops my fsb and the clock speed drops back to 2ghz. I've hear that this is a sympton of using cool and quiet but I have it disabled. If I reboot, it will return to 2150mhz for a few hours before it repeats this action. There is no instabilty in the system when this occurs, I can continue whatever task is at hand and you wouldnt even notice it was happening if it wasnt for the cpuz readout. Has anyone heard of this? I appreciate any help or advice you can give - Aratech
