First 780 performance leaks

And generally things that are too good to be real... are.

There's been a heavy discussion over this in other places.. the performance number is already higher than a 690. Even if the Titan rumors were correct, it shouldn't hit anywhere near this number.
 
Me thinks people are getting Titan and GTX 780 confused.

Numerous reports are all over the place with Titan coming in Feb and 780 coming in June or that they are one in the same.
 
The problem is that these are all rumors and nobody knows what's coming out for sure.

The NVIDIA GeForce Titan was leaked only a week ago showing that it NVIDIA would be launching a GK110 based consumer GPU at a price point of $899.

Does anyone else see a pattern here? Why do people have no qualms of paying $800+ for the latest next generation single-GPU Nvidia card but when AMD launched the 7970 at the pricepoint of $500+ which was the latest and greatest of this generation, everyone flipped their shit. I paid $600 (x2) for mine back in Jan 2012 and it is par for the course if you want current fastest card. No regrets considering it's still pretty damn fast.

Because what AMD launched was the normal consumer level high end product, while EVERY REPORT I have read points to this as NOT THE GTX 780, but in fact a limited edition, only-a-small-quantity-sold product. That is why no one is going crazy. Its like getting mad at Asus for coming out with their ARES II card for $1500. ITS NOT MEANT TO BE A FULL MANUFACTURED PART, just special edition and that's how they can justify the price.

I guess a card that comes out and completely rewrites the book on performance isn't exciting for you? Who gives a shit if its from Nvidia or AMD or Intel or Apple for that matter and the cost?

Its like someone inventing a true teleportation device that costs 1 billion to manufacture. Who cares how much it costs, its more the fact that the bar has been raised almost exponentially, almost out of nowhere. Sure we all knew that the "780" or "Titan" or "Big Kepler" or GK110 was going to be a beast, but if these leaks are true, then this is exciting for sure.

I'm always excited for new hardware, but at 1080p I don't think I have a reason to buy anything new at the moment. Most of the games that can't be maxed out at normal resolutions these days are that way because of software, not hardware.

Anyone who wanted that level of performance and didn't mind the cost probably already has a GTX690.

Well not all of us can afford a bugatti, but that doesn't mean that it isn't the pinnacle of what a street-legal car can be. While that my a subjective view since there are MANY factors involved in that, GPU's are very easily proved to be better or not as good as another one. So yes, it would rewrite the book on what a single gpu can do, and it would be monumental.

Well.. Of course they did. Since according to your scenario, money isn't an issue, these same people will go out and but the Titan - and that's the only people who would buy it since those that couldn't afford the 6990 sure as well are not going to shell this much money. My point in this statement was just to shoo away the people who like to throw out "fanboi" flames, that's all :)

... well, ok, bad analogy - but the same principle still exists. Cost should have no affect on whether something is a great technological advance or not. Its like complaining the mars rover or the electron collider was too expensive so its "meh". And, yes, IF this exists, its going to break records, and from what it looks like, hearts.
 
I think this will break records and 'hearts' for this generation but honestly it's not something that will rewrite video card history...will the Titan still be the fastest card once the 800 series comes out?...a card that lasts for maybe 1 cycle is no different then a normal high end card (with a little extra horsepower to get enthusiasts fired up)
 
Hell, with Crysis 3, Colonial Marines, and other games coming out in the near future, this is a win win for all us [H] gamers...I say way to go Nvidia...Keep the gpu battle going..better for us customers...

This has to have a larger bus size than 256 bit.

This is the kind of performance I am expecting from next generation cards... I hope this card doesn't cost more than $500.

So wait there is the Titan coming out AND a 780? Are these 2 different cards? I read somewhere that the Titan is in fact not the new 780 coming out...
