Today I got my shiny new PC built and all seemed well.

Tried my first game that i've been itching to play, World In Conflict (been away for years) and low and behold...... it won't even launch.

aticfx32.dll error.

Well fuck you very much AMD. Cheers.

First of all, does it work with crossfire off?

No. :-( First thing I tried.

Tried running in Vista compat. mode too, no joy.

Couple of patches out for it, can always hope. Will go down that route first I guess.

Using latest 10.10d cats with newest profiles.

Dude- do a little more testing and stuff before flipping out. You probably need those patches, and if it doesn't even work with a single card, then there is a DIFFERENT problem. Did you try each of the cards individually?

You have got to be kidding me. Do some more troubleshooting before complaining here.

If it's an OpenGL game you'll supposedly need to grab the atioglxx.dll from 10.4 drivers in order to play any older OpenGL based game.

You say you've been away a few years?

Bit of advice: if you're playing catch-up, don't bother with the forgettable and medicore games. I booted up World in Conflict, which I acquired as part of some bundle in a Steam sale, and deleted it after 5 minutes. Terrible graphics by today's standards and wince-inducing plot and voice acting.

Clean install of Windows.

Installed latest game patches, most upto date drivers, latest Catalyst profiles.

All other system drivers are current.

Synthetic benchies are all ok.

Just seems that time has passed this game by, and drivers no longer want to play nice with it. Understandable, if you wasn't looking forward to it.

I'm pretty patient with these things normally, just disappointment more than anything.

Just ran Stalker Clear Sky, ingame runs great but noticed strange artifacting on the ingame menu. Weird. Nothing like it appears within the game itself though.

It will work with CF but it looks like you may have to scale back your driver to an older version.

But why your playing old stuff on new hardware is beyond me, find something with some nice DX11 action and crank it up, those two cards in CF and you wanna mess with a game that wont even put and stress on those cards. Wake Up!:D

Just Messing, Got to play with the new guy... Good luck with it.

Sounds like a driver issue.
I don't see why people would slam him for playing older games.
He shelled out nearly $500 for 6870 crossfire, I think he should be able to expect to play all his games.
*goes to fire up some Fallout 3 in NV Surround.*

I agree that he should expect more from a new video card. I can clearly remember upgrading from an old system to a new and finding "older" games oh so much more enjoyable. The excitement of being able to play at the highest settings with high levels of AA and other such effects was a justification of the money I just spent. The idea that older games won't play exceedingly well, much less play at all, is disturbing. New video card releases should not only offer better playability in current and future games but allow for higher settings and enjoyment in older games.

It seems this has become something of a "feature" rather than a requirement and that is not a trend I like. I'm not sure if this is vendor specific or not but I have seen a number of posts regarding things of this type over the past year and it's something that worries me. When I make a video card purchase I want the new games that I haven't played to be pretty and the older games I've been playing (or stopped playing) to be prettier/faster than they were before. I don't feel like this is an unfair expectation.

Sorry for the flamebait. I had a looong day yesterday getting this thing built and setup.

Turns out it was the latest 10.10 profiles that break the game. Rename the .exe and it works.

My only current gripe is im getting horizontal refresh flicker in games. Not very noticeable but its annoying none the less. Thought my Viewsonic VX2260 would have been upto the task. :-(

No problem man. Researching, buying everything, waiting for everything to arrive, take hours to build it, all builds up a lot of expectation. I would hate to see an error message after all that too.

If you have Horizontal Flicker, it's probably because the game is running too fast. Try enabling VSYCH in game if it has that option. Most monitor have a refresh rate of 60hz, so if the game is going at 100fps, it will tear..

Hey there,

It's more of a refresh scan line flicker, like dark waves. Barely noticeable, but annoying none the less.

Reminds me of problems I use to have way back when with CRTs. Looking at the reviews for this screen, nobody mentions this prob which is a bit annoying. Never noticed it before because I only had it plugged into a laptop, 360 or PS3.

It's no biggy, can hardly notice it during games if at all. Mainly on game menus.

Ok, new card. Everything is running awesomely, games run great.

Just this strange refresh issue I can't sort out. Nasty dark waves up and down the screen, good example is in the game menu of Stalker: Call of Pripyat.

Any ideas?

It's set to 60hz, high as it goes at this res.

Ticked reduce DVI frequency, now all is well.

Cards absolutely rip Stalker Call of Pripyat to bits even on DX 11. Amazing stuff.

Now just need to work out how to force VSync to avoid tearing, setting it in the options doesn't work.

UUmm...Where have you been? WiC is only 3 years old!!! The graphics are DX10. DX11 may have better graphics in some ways, but WiC is one of the most pleasing games to the eye IMHO. I still play WiC on some weekends and still find servers that are plenty packed.

I have had no issues with the 10.10 drivers from AMD/ATI playing WiC.

Unfortunately, the Crossfire profile was broken in recent driver sets so I have to rename the .exe , don't suppose you know if that would cause Crossfire to not work with it?
