is there any device that will let me connect a firewire device to work on usb? im trying to connect a firewire audio interface to a computer that only has usb. is there a signal converter that will downgrade the speed or signal?
 
I've never seen one and from my understanding of how firewire works I think it's unlikely one will ever exist.

Is USB really the only interface available on the computer?

yees. no pci slots available. might have to get a new usb audio interface
