I have two Vantec Nexstart external enclosues, with two seagate 200gb drives in them, connected to firewire. It was my understanding that with Firewire you can daisy-chain them so you end up only using 1 port. I have them daisy chained, but the computer will not see the second one at the end of the chain unless I turn the first one on also...

Anyone else daisychaining firewire devices? How does it work out for you?

Yes i have daisychained firewire devices and yes the first has to be on in order for the second device to be recognized. I had my external dvd writer first and my backup enclosure second. Seem to work out since i used the dvd drive more than the backup drive. If i did a backup, i had to have the DVD drive on but that wasn't a biggie.
