Ok, so im in a band (basic setup: guitar, bass, drums, vocals, keyboard) and am looking for a better way to record to my computer than each person taking their turn recording through my 1/4 to 1/8 mini plug to my line in on my onboard audio card (yeah..) and I saw this thing and thought it looked pretty awesome, let me know if im a just a retard but, I think this could be a great little budget peice of equiptment.

would we all be able to play at the same time and have the audio data transfered to the computer via firewire without any latency? its got 4 inputs, the mic would go to the XLR obviously, then guitar bass and a microphone for the drums then the keyboard through midi or spdif... think this woudl work? or should i look for a different solution? I found some of these on ebay for pretty cheap... would a USB 2.0 device be faster or better? Thanks!!

cmon! please!? someone!? i just need to know if this will be sufficient for my use? USB 2.0 or firewire any major difference between these two? i will be using it to record all instruments simultaneously into my computer via firewire into adobe audition. then saving as MP3s thats all im doing really...
 
Firewire is better in this case, because it can guarantee a constant data rate / low latency. USB2.0 has higher peak throughput, but it has dips in the data rate that firewire does not. (USB2 generally gets put on more things since it's simpler / cheaper to do... but there's a reason firewire is used for things like digital video. ;) )

I don't have any experience with the box in question, but M-Audio is generally respected, and it looks like a decent piece of kit. I did a quick google search for reviews, and they seemed generally positive, and praised it for its portability (i.e., throw it in the bag with your laptop, get everyone together, quick setup, record demo). If you've got the spare cash, why not pick it up? If you don't like it, it probably wouldn't be hard to sell it to someone else for the same price. :p
