what the big differences between the FireGL series and regular ATI card (9600se, 9800aiw, ect)?

Why do Intel and AMD charge nearly twice as much money for Xeons and Athlon MPs as they do for almost identical P4/XPs?

I think the word that the ecconomics types use is 'market segmentation'.

The fact is that the type of people buying this kind of hardware don't really care about a few hundred dollars here or there for good hardware. Have you looked at the price of the software that the FireGL is targeted at? The licencing costs for commercial 3D animation, CAD, and engineering software (which often require yearly renewals) dwarfs the costs of a $500 one-time fee for a video card.

ok if your calling business owners of CAD companys that want 2 just throw money at stuff is just not normal. Is that like saying the Neon RT is a Viper just with a smaller frame & for dumb people who want 2 look good driving down the strip. Also its what RD was put into making it stable & the chips have to do different things.

because there completely different

saying there the same is like saying intel and amd are the same
if you there both proccesors then yes other wise no (ie acording to your anoalogy a P4ee and a 486 dx are the same)

my question is whats the main differtence between fireGL cards and other video

edit: btw the reson im asking is because my company use CAD. i dont see were a normal video card wouldn't work, becuase unless your doing high detail 3d rendoring i dont see were Autocad is graphicly intense

Though the FireGL and the Radeon series chips share some of the same cores, it's the drivers and the enabled features that differ between the two lines of cards. The FireGL series is meant for 3D graphics designers but not gamers, while the Radeon series is designed for optimal gaming and entertainment performance at each given price point. (The FireGL series can run games - but their performance in Direct3D is much poorer than that of even a cheap Radeon, due to the slight differences in their design.)
