I have a Fire GL X3-256 card in my workstation, which is on the tail end of ATI's update curve, as the last update for this technology was 10-2007. The problem? The new XP SP3 update wasn't compatible with the rotate screen function. Who cares?, For one, a writer/filmmaker who would use the rotate screen, who also has an aged (2003) workstation built from ebay parts and Fry's and whatever else comes through the door - a monster for what it's used for, and impossible to replace, but 5 years is unforgivable in the computer world, so I crawled under the ATI driver release program with my broken rotate screen until July 16, when they inadvertently released a new driver for my card. (!_). I was quickly put down with an incompatibility screen, which had me up at 3AM comparing the install.ini files between the old and new dirvers, fuming. I figured it out. I did a X3 mod to their posted drivers that allowed my card to work in the XP SP3 environment - and have this new VS available for any who need it, no charge. I sent a missive to ATI, but at this point there's been nothing but static on the line, and the faulty driver of there's is still posted. Don't believe me? Try installing the update they've posted. Bunch of dorks!
