Firefox and video card

Is there a correlation between a failing video card and Firefox.

My computer has been crashing when I use Firefox...not the program but the whole computer goes down...it does not happen when I use Google Chrome.

On the FF forums I was told that it could be my RAM or the video card. Since I bought new RAM and it is still crashing when using FF...they say it could be the Card....it is a BFG GeForce 7600GT 256mb PCIe with the latest drivers from June.

Any thoughts?

Are you doing anything specific in FF that's making it crash? Before, I OC'd my CPU too much and occasionally when I was watching a video with FF I'd get BSOD'd.
 
I doubt if FF is the root cause. To rule out a hardware problem with the video card, physically inspect the capacitors on the 7600GT. It's a known problem with that card. I had the caps blow on my 7600GT recently, but with me the card just quite working.

If everything is ok with the gpu, you might have a misbehaving FF add-on, to trouble shoot this kind of problem, run FF in safe mode, that will temperarally disable all the add-on's in FF (not windows safe-mode) and see if the problem goes away.

Not sure what I would be looking for on the card's capacitors.......

The system is as built and works well even though it is 3 years old. I will try Safe Mode.

if you can try disabling hardware accel in your adobe flash player.. odds are that will probably solve the problem..
 
I know I had a problem with Adobe Flash about a year ago.

Where do I find the setting for Flash Acceleration...I looked in the "add-ons" but only see 'Shockwave 10xxx'

open something with flash player.. right click on it go to settings then uncheck hardware accel.. by default its on even if your card doesnt support it and its what causes the lag problems that a lot of people see on systems that dont have an igp/gpu that supports hardware accel..

I disabled the accleration......and then opened FF 2 times and it froze....but now it seems to be running.....

Have to use it to see if the computer does not crash.
