Firefox - allow multiple connections?

My banking website is messed up as of recent, where it takes ages to log in, and during that log in process (45-60 seconds), Firefox will not process any other websites. So if I open another tab and type in www.google.com it will just hang there until the banking website is logged in.

I don't know what's up with that, it doesn't make sense. It's as if Firefox can't process more than one request but I'm pretty sure that's not true at all. Is there a way to fix this? Within Firefox I mean, so that it will still process other requests even though my banking website is causing this hang
 
I'm no expert by any means, but I've seen this behavior in several versions of both IE and FF, where it will hang all windows while waiting for information. I don't know of a "fix"...just wanted to note that it's not uncommon.
