Ok, I want to set Fold@Home as a service so I can run it 'invisibly in the background'

Anyone with links on how to do this? :D

Windows 2000 on some & XP Pro on others.

I read the readme file and the FAQ, but I haven't found specific instructions yet. I'm such a noob. :p
 
When you run the V5 client the first time, it will ask you if you want to install it as a service to automatically start when windows start. That is all you have to do, if you really want to get ambitious you can edit the registry and add -forceasm and -advmethods if you are running Intel boxen.

To change your service flags for Folding

In regedit, go to

HKLM ->System->CurrentControlSet->Services

You should see FAH@C:+ something or other

Change the ImagePath to whatever options you would like!
 
I know what I did wrong! I installed the Graphical Client and not the console only client. Oops! :D

We all started as noobs at some point. Just make up for the error by adding 4Ghz and all will be forgiven.
 
Yes... your penance shall be adding 10 boxen of 2GHz or more… repeat until you wake up in the middle of a deep sleep screaming “I must add more boxen!!!” :D

I did just that! well -- except for the screaming part. I was trying to figure out in my half-sleep how many boxen / GHz I can get going ASAP. Corporate farm, here I come!

That is correct. We hold corporate Sys Admins to a much higher standard. Therefore, the higher penance requirement.

You need to treat us like IT auditors, do not provide any information unless specifically asked and then only provide the answer to their question without expounding on any other subjects during the delivery of the answer.

Once you tell us too much, we then hold you accountable at a higher level for everything you told us.
