Fired For Complaining About Comcast

I could see being fired for complaining about Comcast if you actually worked for the company. This guy worked for an accounting firm and Comcast had him fired for complaining. Thanks to HydroBudz for the link.

At some point shortly after that call, someone from Comcast contacted a partner at the firm to discuss Conal. This led to an ethics investigation and Conal’s subsequent dismissal from his job; a job where he says he’d only received positive feedback and reviews for his work.

It is lame, but I doubt that the accounting firm would want to loose a contract as big as Comcast.

True. It's a lot cheaper for them to deal with a wrongful termination lawsuit than lose the contract.

The problem is that since it isn't age/race/sex based there probably isn't anything to sue for. Most states allow for a company to fire anyone they want as long as it isn't based on discrimination.

Out of control. Unbelievable overreach. Just speechless.

I have cox. They have yet to really screw anything up. If I ever have to use comcast, I will go without internet instead.

He probably can't his employer. Most states, you can be fired for pretty much any reason, or no reason.

However, Comcast could be sued for tortuous interference. Granted, they have enough money to keep it tied up in court forever.

Sadly you are right.

At will employment. Unless covered by discrimination or some other protective law your boss can fire you. Period.

Unless you are covered by a collective bargaining agreement that states termination must have cause.

With bullshit like this I dont see why unions are shrinking.

From what I've read on this situation, the guy did make a mistake. He called the office of one of the higher-ups in Comcast's accounting department and started making threats about having them audited when he himself works for a firm that does financial consulting for Comcast. I'm not exactly sure how he thought that was going to help his customer service problems, or how he thought Comcast would respond to something like that.

Not to defend Comcast's egregious billing errors or horrendous customer service, but this guy picked a really stupid way to try to resolve their issues.

I still don't see how his call warranted his termination with his company. Was the employer basically stating that they fired him because he was "representing" them in his conversations by supposedly mentioning their name?

Also, shouldn't he have been told why he was being fired?

As I see it this guy has more lawsuits available to him than carter has little pills

Did I ever mention how much I love Charter? I'm actually terrified of moving elsewhere and having to sign on with these bastards.

Eh, his company made an ethics investigation and that led to him getting fired. He called the comptroller of Comcast and made threats, supposedly using who he worked for as some kind of scare tactic. Given the company that Conal works for contracts with Comcast it is likely there are policies in place about contractors attempting to gain preferential treatment, or about how the conduct of themselves when using the companies name during personal engagements. It sounds more like he violated a company policy; Comcast CS may suck but this issue sounds more like the fault lies with Conal.

If the senior VP of Comcast is involved in this, Comcast is seriously gathering its wagons over this whole ordeal

They have 100% fucked up, this is now a PR nightmare, should the guy decide to sue they are completely and utterly fucked no matter what, as even if it never gets to court, this is going to cause problems with everything they do, including them wanting to merge with Time Warner

HAHAHA sounds like his first lesson playing [H]ardball with the big boys...

Regardless of if the firing was warranted, legal, or even ethical this is going to be a massive headache for Comcast. They would have been far better off just giving into the demands of the complainer. Considering that this guy worked for the auditor I am sure he could convince an audit team at the IRS to look into some specific dealings Comcast is involved in. Private auditors have a broad swath of leeway in requesting an IRS audit. This will likely end up costing Comcast millions of dollars in additional auditing fees. This is just another example of corporate dick measuring contests with no thought to what could possibly happen.

If your only other choice is 4mbps/768k, would you go with AT&T for that plan instead?

This is the monopoly nobody is willing to talk about.
the answer to your question is YES. Because that is the exact service I have from AT&T. Funny enough if I need faster service, I will turn on LTE on my phone and download what I need.

Screw Comcast!

exactly, the guy thought he could leverage his job instead of calling as a normal customer.
just like gambling, don't bet what you can't afford to loose.

TLDR he had the smaller dick

Ah, just wait until AT&T and Comcast complete the merger.
That's one hell of a mega-corp; it will be a fun enemy of Shadowrunners in the future. :D

I read the article and this is the anal retentive type of guy that documents everything. If this goes to court he will win. Not only will he bury comcast in a sea of paper and documents, but people are fed up with companies shitting all over the public.

Also the guy who works for comcast that got him fired is a previous PW (his employer) employee. This totally smacks of a vengeful act by comcast.

Not sure about your fascination with penis, but if you read the article he had tried normal channels for months and then when they sent him 2k worth of materials without his ordering it he then went to higher levels and mentioned that they were not supposed to do that.

If you have worked at a larger company (Fortune 500) then you are familiar with all the tricks companies do to show quarterly profit. One place I worked at would buy and return equipment from it's partners to make it's balance sheet show what it needed to that quarter. So it would not surprise me that comcast would send out equipment and float it for week or so just so they could show a positive balance.

The guy sounds like a major terd to be honest. That said, Comcast should have known better - just credit the guy the $26 bucks - like that amount of money means anything. Now, Comcast has a PR nightmare. I guess you reap what you sow.

OK, so as best as I can tell from reading the articles, the guy claims when he was fired his employers specifically referred to an email from Comcast detailing their conversations with him, but wouldn't produce it so he could see what they claimed he said and give him the chance to rebut those claims. His employer says he violated employee ethics rules. Reading between the lines, it sounds like the employer is trying to say this guy named-dropped his employer in the conversations with Comcast, and tried to use them as leverage, and that Comcast ratted him out. If he didn't actually do that, he shouldn't just sue Comcast, he should sue his employer for wrongful termination and force them to produce the documentation. People can say all they want "companies can fire you for pretty much any reason, yadda yadda", but the company has stated publicly that they fired him for cause. If that claim turns out to be BS, I'm pretty sure he's got a case, since now they've gone tarnished his character by saying he's unethical. If he sues, I think he can force them to back up their claim with actual evidence.

I am a day or two old in my information, that said I read the guy was stating he did not use his employers name, at all.

I never do understand why every company you get service/products from seems to need to know the name of your employer(s). Why is that?

IMO not relevant.
