Hey,

I have a Firebox x700 that worked fine up until about a month ago.

So, I have an old Dell 566cx that had a 566mhz Socket 370 cpu in it and when I put it in the x700 it worked.

But since then I bought two cpu's off of ebay...both socket 370. One was a 1.2 ghz and the other a 1.3.

Neither worked. They both would either boot loop or not boot at all.

Does this sound like 2 bad cpu's OR a bad power supply ?

thx

If they are 1.2's or 1.3's they are probably tualatin's which would mean the are different to P3's ie different voltages and such....

You would be best looking for socket 370 say 866 or 1ghz cpu's tho it's been so long now since I played P3's. Main thing is to check they use 66, 100, or 133mhz bus speeds.

Ie you can get a 1ghz P3 CPU with 100mhz CPU ... So it would have a 10x100mhz config
Also you can also get one with 133mhz bus speed.... Which would be 7.5x133mhz config

Check what the firebox can take... 100 or 133mhz bus speed cpu's

.

look up the stepping number for the original CPU and get the specs.

Honestly, sounds like they may not be configured correctly and/or meant for that socket.
Socket 370 processors, much like Socket LGA775, have different processors with different bus speeds and memory type allowances.

You said you are running a 566MHz processor. Is it a Pentium III or a PIII-based Celeron?
Also, what is the bus speed? Should be 66MHz or 133MHz from the sound of it, since 100MHz variants normally ran at 550MHz or 600MHz.

One was a 1.2 ghz and the other a 1.3.
Those are most likely 133MHz variants of the PIII and a later-generation model.

Old school = fun :)
