I personally think there should be a thread here on this/added to the moosy top sticky thing or what not. It's a pretty frigging sweet tool that even mage uses for nix installs....

(I've read the bare minimum on how to make this thing work, I mean the bare baby moosies butt minimum to make it work)

Basically it's a script you can download from a nix console and it installs the FAH client on all sorts of nix platforms. Beta support for the SMP client (what I used, works). I messed around and around getting the SMP client to load on startup and never really actually ended up working. finstall and bang done. Needed to add the part about installing as a service, and well starting the client was useful too but...bare moosie butt here folks...

Ivoshiee is the author, active mod at FCF. We'll just say he's not too much an evil mod like the rest (Macholic) are (Macholic).

Load up nix flavor, open up a console grab the script and off you go basically. I think someplace in the directions is how to make toast with the deal, it gets a little long winded.

Completely unsupported Marty steps:

wget -c http://ra.vendomar.ee/~ivo/finstall

chmod +x finstall

./finstall smp (for ya know the SMP client version)

./folding start (I think that's it?)
./folding installService (pops the service in so client starts on box startup, went something like that)

Installs stuff in /root/foldingathome

Ummkey, I think that link is rather self explainatory

Wow, a well-written and relevant post by Marty!

If you put the init script in /etc/init.d , FAH will start on its own. It's probably a good idea to put FAH under its own username, at least on non-dedicated folding boxes; I think there's an easy way to do this with finstall but it's been a while, so I don't remember.

Non-dedicated boxen?! Heresy!
