My dad owns a disc of one of my favorite tv shows that I want to back up (This is illegal I suppose, bite me.) Unfortunately, its a dual-layer DVD disc and I only have single layer DVD-5s. So I have exclude all the menus, extras, etc. and leave just the bare episodes to avoid heavy compression. I did this with DVD Shrink where i ended up with the video_ts folder which i burned onto a disc with Sonic.

Where the problem is is that every time I do this, its unreadable by any type of dvd player. On the 360 I get a "Mixed Media Disc" reading. The strange thing is is that I've used this exact method with other DVDs and it worked fine. Is there anyway I can get this to burn correctly? Am I better off just converting these vob files to AVIs and storing them on my HD?

Instead of just burning the straight up VIDEO_TS folder to a disk, reshrink the DVD with DVD Shrink and set the output to an ISO file. Then burn that ISO file to a disk with Imgburn or something (Sonic might burn ISO files also). From what I understand, the way you do it makes the disk a data disk with the data on it (that's why it shows up as a "Mixed Media Disk" on the 360). My way actually turns it into a proper DVD. Try this and LMK how it works.

Correct.

You cant just burn a Video_TS folder to a disc and call it a DVD.

DVDShrink can use the Nero burning option (if Nero is installed, of course) and then it'll use the Nero burning engine to create a proper DVD (actual DVD format media so you should be able to play it in any DVD player).

There are two issues here:

1) The media you're using might simply be cheap shit discs that don't handle being burned as proper DVD media, or...

2) You need to learn how to do proper DVD burning and bitsetting which can force a set top DVD player to recognize a burned DVD as actual DVD-ROM format media and play it.

As for the "bite me" thing, well... I'll let a Mod handle that. If you think or believe what you're doing is illegal that's not a good way to ask for help considering such discussions themselves are prohibited at this forum.
