Can I use fingernail polish to remove thermal paste? Or what other house hold items are there that I can use?

I wouldnt.. I would think it would leave a residue on the sink.... Try using some orange clean, then follow that up with some alcohol.

found some %70 isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Thats safe right?

I always use rubbing alcohol. And FYI, I'm not sure how fingernail polish works on processors, but fingernail polish REMOVER is probably more effective.

finger nail polish remover.... is what you are thinking about unless you want your IHS to be red or blue :)

but no dont use it... use some rubbing alcohol

yeah. 91 or 99% is best though.. readily obtainable at your nearest food or drug store ;)

Polish remover is usually made of acetone or something similar. I wouldn't use it as it can dissolve many plastics.

Yes, I recommend a hot pink color followed by a clear lacquer topcoat. :p

Most rubbing alcohol contains chlorates, that's what kills the germs.

Get pure isopropyl or pure acetone or pure MEK, where gloves with MEK..

just wipe it clean with a friggin paper towel blow it off and use as new.

its not neccesary to get it 100 percent clean, thats just anal.

now watch me get flamed

I agree with you, but only because I have to seat about 5 processors a day on average at my job.

70% works perfectly fine, the two ingredients are water and alcohol, so the other 30% is just water and the alcohol helps evaporate it quite quickly and it wont cause any issues. Just using a paper towel still leaves old paste in the microscopic grooves on the IHS and hinders cooling, if your anal :)

well, the point of the paste is to fill those "holes", so leaving some there isn't really a bad thing... ;)

I've most of cases used acetone, hell i have even removed thermal paste with proper alcohol like Finish vodka and koskenkorva which do the jop nicely, you can even take few drinks while your removing thermal paste..... which is nice :D
