I finally got everything hooked up, but unfortunately I've realized that skylake is hot. And seemingly too much for my loop. Not going to be changing my loop anytime soon, so if I'm going to OC it I'll need to it when o can get the max performance for the min volt. Setting it to auto prodces too much heat.

Does anyone have or know of a good guide for fine tuning an OC on a skylake build?

My system specs are in my sig

I.e.
At 4.5 and auto power (1.42) I'm getting 90+ on my cores

Problem solved. Prime95 was just turning the 6700k into a fire breathing dragon. Prime95 is not the proper stress test for skylake and haswell

Auto power is often a feature that can turn a CPU into a toaster. How hot does it get at 4.4? There could be a dramatic reduction in power from a minor drop in clock speed.
 
What were you running before if that Skylake is too much for your loop?

4.4 runs in the high 80s with 1.35v. Seems the power drops a lot, but the temperature doesn't. Doesn't seem like a lot of voltage for as much as heat as im getting.

What were you running before if that Skylake is too much for your loop?

i7-3820 @ 4.5 temps would rarely touch the 60s

p.s. I've already tried reseating the CPU, changing the TIM, and making sure everything was properly mounted.

However, my loop did sit stagnant for 2 months ehwile waiting for the 6700k to be released. Hoping that I dont have any build up on the block.

Considering what you were running before and now you are hitting 20c higher in Skylake I would think it's something with your loop.

find the lowest stable manual voltage and then set that voltage under adaptive

Auto will push your CPU into he grave eventually. I know my board was pushing 1.4v at stock on auto, but only needs 1.2v to be stable,
 
Lower your voltage and see what happens. I can do 4.6 at 1.3v and 4.8 at 1.375v on air. I would put at at 1.3v then see what the max frequency you can get stable from there then work off that for increasing voltage and clock speed.
 
I also suggest something may be wrong with your loop.

I'm running a 6600K at 4.7GHz, manually set voltage on a custom loop.
Vcore maxes around 1.42V, temps reach around 70C.
This is with a car heatercore for radiator and a 20cm fan running at 5V instead of 12V.
Ambient is low 20s.
 
Thanks for the replies. After inspecting my loop, it looks like there is a kink in one of my hoses from being in storage. The kink is slight, but it is right where the water exits the cpu block. I'd imagine this could be restricting flow out of the cpu block. Will try to replace that tube first, then see if i need to pull it apart farther. Might as well pull the cpu block off as well and make sure there is no build up in it at the same time. Will post back tonight.
 
Do not use auto voltage. I'm manual voltage, LLC @ 5, 1.39v @ 4.7 and seeing 68C using Asus Realbench on a Kraken X60 AIO.
 
auto voltage = more than you need

I've always known this, but never really knew how to fine tune the voltage settings. There are a lot of voltage adjustment tools and I was unsure of which one should be manipulated in order to achieve the best clock with the lowest power.
 
Ok so I pulled apart the rig and changed the tubing that I thought was problematic. Also pulled apart the CPU block. But to little change. At 4.4 with auto voltage I get 86 on the hottest core and 74 on the coolest core. I think I may have just hit the thermal limit with my cooling solution, which to be honest just doesnt seem right. I have 520mm of rad and 4 noctua fans paired with the swiftech pump.

I guess i'll play with my bios settings some more to see if I can get anything else.
 
Something doesnt seem right.

Have you checked the pumps flow rate and the flow rate in operation?
Does the pipe leading to the radiator get a lot warmer than the exit pipe?
If so this indicates slow flow rate.
 
I guess prime just really put off that much heat/power.

I set core manually to 1.35v and was able to get to 4.7 before the chip would BSOD at 4.8. Can run Intel XTU for 10 mins with no BSOD and a max temp of only 74 on the hottest core and 61 on the coolest core.

On Prime (Small FFTs) with 1.35v and 4.7, I get an instant BSOD.

Isn't their a voltage bug with Skylake and prime? Try another stress test if you haven't already.
 
Yeah, see the post above. Xtu is showing a max of 74c. I've always used prime.

Looks like that solves it. Very happy with 4.7 @ 1.35v
 
Just to shed some more information. The issue is with the latest versions of Prime95 using the AVX2 extensions in Haswell and Skylake, and how clockspeeds/voltages work for desktop consumer parts.
