Okay, I've decided to go ahead and find how high I can take my memory and then bring up my multiplier afterwards to get the most HTT into the GHz I have. My reference cooler will eventually be replaced, but looking to get more HTT into ~2.5GHz. Anyway, I'm at work so it's gonna be about an hour or so until I can do this, but just looking for some help/insight.

I plan on dropping the Multi to 8x or something (should i use lower?) and cranking the memory voltage as high as it'll go (in my case, 2.85v) and see where it flips out at. Also, I'll grap my motherboard book and find the reset jumper incase it up and dies on me :)

My memory is CAS3 Kingston ValueRAM so I'm not expecting the world out of it, but 220-230 or more would be nice @ 2.85v....@2.6v I'm pulling 210MHz. I know it'll go 211MHz, but either 212 or 213 it does, not sure if that's the CPU wanting more or not.

Should I just crank the memory voltage to begin with, or wait until it crashes and then give it more so I have some sort of idea?
 
wait till it crashes before bumping the voltages...
Go as high as you can now. Bump it up to the next voltage. Then go as high as you can. Bump it up again...etc
 
uping the voltage that much is a little dangerous... if you really wanna do it make sure you go in small incraments.
 
Eh, from what I've read, memory takes a voltage beating pretty well? I diddn't think 2.85 would really do much harm considering the booster that cranks memory amazing voltages..who knows, I should probably try and see what I can pull off one step at a time.

What multiplier should I run at for the testing do you think?
 
My goodness this memory is cooperating well! So far, I've gotten 230MHz 1:1 with a 11x multi running 2.53GHz @ 1.55v and it's loading on fullscreen rthdribl @ 60C....so it's up 1C and at the exact temp I was going to stop at, so that's good....mind you, this memory is at stock voltage of 2.6v! Amazing stuff....not sure how much higher it'll go but if I get bored I'll mess with it and see how much higher...I was in disbelief of seeing 230MHz @ stock voltage...but the timings of 3-3-3-8 are super loose so that all I can figure is letting it do that.

Once this thing runs for about an hour (it crashed once at 230x11, but i bumped the vcore on the CPU and it's rock stable now) and I know that's the highest temp it'll see (60C) I'mma reboot to memtest and check for errors. Did 1 test of prime95 with no errors so nothing terrible is screwing up...we'll see what happens.

2.85v is nothing for your ram. You don't need any direct cooling until you hit 3.0v+. It's fine at 2.85v, so go for it. In fact, most new ram is rated for 2.8v.
 
BOO :mad: Errors go crazy after the first few tests in memtest86....it was on the block moving test...memory got pissed. So I dropped it back down to default to make sure the memory isn't borked to start with (never did a full memtest on it). So, would upping the voltage fix the errors I'm getting @ 230MHz? I'm already missing 230MHz lol.
 
Well, I ran the test @ stock 200MHz...zero problems. Bump it up to 210MHz....still no problems. Bump it up to 220MHz, no problems....Go to 225MHz and we have issues. So I crank the voltage to 2.85v to see if it helps, and adding voltage to the good ol' ValueRAM doesn't help it at all...still errors.

I drop to 223MHz, and I can't remember if it errored or not, but I pressed ESC to reboot and it stuck at POST...then went to POST and gave a screen saying to adjust my overclocks..so I set them to 224MHz...no problems (I'm back at stock voltage now). I figure hey, maybe it doesn't like single digit increases for whatever reason and I try 226MHz...no issues. 228MHz brings the issues back up. So for now It looks like 226, aka DDR452. To find errors quickly, I'd switch to test #5 on boot (seems to be the first errors you find). For that, you just press the following keys w/o the commas: c,1,3,5,enter,0 Got it down to a system :) Running a full scan on 226 to see if anything pops up. If not, then 226 it is. Kinda suck because that leaves me at 2486MHz aka 2.48GHz but at least it's an error free GHz. Hey, once I get better cooling I know I can hit 2712GHz, with proper voltage...mmm, sounds so good.

*dreams about the 2.7GHz in the meantime....oh, and some better memory too*

Edit: The load temp on the CPU is down 3C from before...which I definately like. Overclock seems alot more stable too, as in not jumping in speed which my system seems to like to do...maybe errors in memory force the CPU to speed up to make up for such errors? Idunno, stab in the dark. :)
