I have been having some probs with my X800Pro. I bought it in october. I thought maybe I would do a bunch of testing on my comp and see if I can isolate the prob.

I tested my ram a few times with memtest. Made sure my bios looked good, even flashed it to the newest settings. Checked airflow in the case, added fans. Upgraded from a generic PSU to a decent one with enough power. I even tortured myself by playing games for hours on end ;).

I can render a DVD from raw DV cam footage, Prime95 for hours upon hours, and I can record music and do mixdowns on songs with 30 tracks on it wwith a million plugins running. The comp is rock solid.

The moment I fire a game up and try anything that is stressful like BF1942 Desert Combat Final above 1024x768 VPU recovers and hard locks. Code Creatures over 1024x768 with AA on...the same thing. Aquamark over the default settings....VPU crap and lockups. 3DMark03+......you know the deal by now.

I finally called ATI since I felt it was the card. Level 2 Tech Support agrees with me and told me to do an RMA request. I shoulda done it in the first place. Coulda saved a lot of time.

I did this post to help anyone who has had the same symptoms that I have had.

Yeah, that's the draw back of building your own system. The thing that goes wrong and then spending hours upon hours debugging.

Hope your RMA goes well.

Gl with your RMA, worked well for me, 2 weeks and I got a brand new card :)

Going a little off topic, but that the third best part of building a computer IMO. First it putting it together. Second, its booting it up and doing some serious gaming on it and thirdly, its fixing the computer yourself. I like to solve my own problems and take the time to fix it. Just feels good knowing you built that computer and then fix it yourself.

Today I sent off my card for the RMA. Any ideas on how long they will take to do their thing, and what might possibly be done? As in new card (what kind they might substitute) or if they might be able to fix my card.

[Update]

I got my card back today. ATI overnighted it and I found that to be a major plus. I installed the card and ran a few benchmarks (Codecreatures and played BF 1942 Desert Combat Final :D )

The card was perfectly stable. I even decided to stress it in the only way one can do to be [H]ard. I overclocked the comp which the last card never liked, and it didn't even sweat. I cranked the cards clocks up to where the last card could barely handle and it did it with no problem. I even took it up to XT PE speeds. Never had a prob. My next step is to see if the card can handle BF2 for a few hours or 3Dmark05 for a few hours. If it's stable then I shall be verry happy.

My conclusion up till this point is: ATI has lived up to my expectations. This was the second time I used their RMA process. The first time was back in 1998. They will continue to recieve my business.
