I have finally achieved 400Mhz FSB with my abit quad ix38 gt but at the expense of lower memory speed. I am running 1:1 with a FSB of 1600mhz and my memory running at 400mhz @ 4-4-4-4-15. I am currently stable. My previous OC was 3.2Ghz (356mhz FSB) with the memory at 533mhz 5-5-5-5-15. Will the decrease im memory speed make the system slower even though its running at a faster Mhz?

From what I've experienced, no. The higher fsb makes up for whatever difference there was in memory speed and it seems Intel cpu's don't benefit too much from the extra bandwidth that comes with faster memory speeds. But, this depends on what you are trying to do. Gaming doesn't see much of a difference but encoding or graphics work might. That said, you can still play around with the memory dividers to eek out whatever you want from the memory. I've heard 1:1 is the ideal divider you want to use on these chips but then again, I haven't extensively tested different ram speeds in conjunction with 400mhz fsb.

1:1 is the only ratio i am stable when running 400mhz FSB. I use it for gaming. My CPU temp didnt raise much either I am at 14C-19C Idle and at most reaches 35C at max load. I also made the memory timing lower so i guess that will make up some ground for lost speed also. I definatley notice a difference running at 400mhz FSB.

Your idle temps are between 57 and 66F? What is ambient? No offense, but that's pretty low for air cooling.

In terms of speed I would agree with skizzled. Everything I've seen indicated that running at higher than 1:1 memory dividers provides little to no real world gains, so I don't think you're missing out on anything.

The abit uguru utility is off. Using Core Temp its 31C Idle and 50C under load.
CPU Voltage 1.4V
DDR2 Voltage 2.2V

Dude, whatever you are using to monitor your temps, is plain WRONG. SOrry to burst your bubble, but you cannot run less than ambient temps on air. Impossible. End of story.

I would suggest using Coretemp.

Oh, and on your memory, wouldn't that be DDR2 800 at 1:1 at 400FSB.

I know thats what i just posted it was wrong. DDR2 800= 400Mhz clock speed.... same thing.

400Mhz real = 800Mhz DDR.

Running outside of a 1:1 ratio FSB to RAM on Intel platforms offers no noticeable performance improvements of any kind. This has been the conclusion of numerous tests by an equally large number of review sites. Memory speed may bench a bit better, higher, but you will see no change aside from the apparently higher numbers.
