How do I join Duty?

I know the leader is in a building in the Bar area toward the north end, but I can't remember if you have to do something else first. If you go to the map just north of it there is a small camp that you can talk to and help them against Freedom.

You have to finish the Yantar mission, I didnt want to divulge this mission as it may spoil your game. You will know when you can join Duty. The bartender will give you a quest to speak to the leader. You will have to do a couple of quests before they let you join.

I think it's the other way around. You see, rednecks would only play the game 15 minutes and then give up. Rednecks would play the game 15 minutes and then come up with an opinion that they thought was valid. God forbid we have to do some reading in a game. Big no no with rednecks. Research is also a big no no with rednecks. It's too hard to do a little research and find mods that make the graphics look better than decent. Oh and rednecks hate something different. You see STALKER is not your typical FPS. It's unique. You have to use your brain. Sorry, this game won't cater to the "getter done" mentality.

Some people just don't (or can't) get it.
Stalker is in my top 5 and I've been PC gaming since 89 and wish I had all the quarters I dropped into arcade games in the years before that.

When I'd finished the real ending, and Strelok is blasting the pods holding the C-Conciousness participants ending their hold on the Zone and then the game goes to credits, I just sat there for several minutes and for the first couple was holding my breath actually reading the names of the people who had made this game and for the first time in all of my gaming/movie watching/tv watching/radio listening, wanted to write a fan letter and tell them how much I appreciated that game.

I loved every single thing about this game with the only exception being running from place to place got a little monotonous.

No.....no....sadly, no. I'm on XP. I started playing through it a few days ago. I have constant CTD. It randomly freezes. This was running patch 1.0001. I thought maybe I needed to update the patch, so I installed 1.0003 - now it won't load my saved games OR a new game. Just CTD while loading. I patched all the way up to 1.005 and it does the same thing. It's buggy as hell, but tons of fun....when it works.

different video drivers have the same effect as well? im sure you tried, but maybe a older driver might help.

That's odd, the only patch that messed with saves was the first. Also, you are aware that there are a few different 1.0003 patches out there right? One is for a version 1 to 1.0003 cumulative, and the other is an incremental from 1.0001 to 1.0003. You might want to re-install and re-patch just in case. One other thing, if you don't plan on playing mp, don't bother with any patch after 1.0004 as they are just mp fixes.

Just don't forget to move your STALKER saves out of the save folder or it might delete those on you.

I pushed through the last two-three maps in one sitting I think so I had to calm down from the intensity a bit. I was definitely suspending disbelief in those last maps, the game really had me.

Words of wisdom with Stalker->Patch first, then play. You need to start a brand new game. Any of your 1.0001 games are incomaptible after you upgraded. This issue was resolved after 1.0002
