Well, it's about time for me.
I'm currently running Socket 478 Pentium 4. With, currently 512MB of RAM. And a total of 890GB of HDD space.
It's been terrible. I come on here to read the news daily, and I get to see all of you cool cats with killer computers. Computer that make mine comparable to a 486!
Until now.
Not more than 20 minutes ago, I placed an order for this system:
ACER LCD 22"
THERMALRIGHT ULTRA-120 EXTREME
CASE ThermalTake Saprano
ABIT IP35 775 R
VGA EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR 8800GTS
CPU INTEL C2Q Q6600 2.40G 775 8M
PSU CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W
MEM 2Gx2 GSK F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ (x2, so 8GB total)
HD 250G WD 7K 8M SATA2 WD2500AAJS (Going to use a pair of my IDE HDDs)
FAN SCYTHE S-FLEX SFF21E(1200rpm)

A bit late to be jumping on the bandwaggon, but in total this only "set me back" $1600!
I'm going to be getting Vista Home Premium for my OS. I use Vista Ultimate at work, and like it.
It's going to be used for moderate gaming (LAN every 3 months, weekend gamer), and hard core rendering, ripping, modeling and design work. Also it'll be my "budget" recording workstation.

I'm so excited. I'm hoping that I get shipment notice tomorrow, and start putting everything together mid week or so.

So excited!

Nicely done. I see you did your research. :) Enjoy it! Don't listen to the naysayers about the quads. These babies are awesome. After a day on the quad, you won't be able to remember what 'bogging down' is ;)

I hope that with 8GB of RAM, you picked up Vista 64-bit...

That said, looks sweet! You'll enjoy this. :)

Good buy! You will enjoy this setup.
Thanks, though I'm sure I will as well. I just hope I can squeeze 4-5 years out of it with minor upgrades along the way.

Yeah, I actually "splurged" and got ultimate 64. For $250, how could I not?
nice build man, all your missing now is PICTURES!
I'll be posting a few pics in here late next week. Maybe a couple during my build process. I'm not into modding so much, so it'll be pretty plain compared to some here...

8GB Wow. I mean i have 4GB and i hardly utilize it all.
Well, then I did what I set out to accomplish in that arena. I want to last as long as I can with as few upgrades as needed in that time.
I hope, at the earliest, this'll last me through 2010.

I wouldve waited till black Friday especially now that the 8800GT is coming out...end of November is the new 8800GTS, I hope they will let you step-up

nice system thought, I wish I had it

New 8800GTS eh? Next video upgrade for me, that is "planned" is for whenever nVidia releases their next top-o-the-line card. I wont buy it at launch, but a couple of months later when prices sag.
Until then, for the mild gaming I do, I think I'll be OK ;).

Vista showed up last night, the monitor is sitting on a UPS truck for delivery, and everything else is due here tomorrow!

I wont get to put it together until monday though :(

I hate to burst your bubble, but when the 8800gt drops (month or so) it will be cheaper then your 320MBGTS, have 512MB of memory and outperform the 640MB version, in some cases maybe the GTX.

Thats unfortunate that it will have to sit in boxes for nearly a week. When i got my latest build i was chomping at the bit to get it running. i had windows installed withing 4 hours of recieving the delivery :p

Anyway, good luck wiht the build. I'm sure you will be very surprised when you boot it up. Q6600s are faster than you may expect. especially coming from a lowly P4.

Yeah, my bubble broke here after I decided to hit the video card section. Of course, I couldn't do that BEFORE ordering.

Oh well. I still needed something "now" to get this up and running, and I have no other PCI-e card laying around.
I don't mind, it's the price you pay from not doing all your research.
I'll wait and see if I can step up through EVGA before Jan 16th (my 90th day). Here's to hoping!
