After a couple of months of working on this and with a few minor set backs I finally finished it. I'll run you through a mini worklog of how things went...

Here I was trying to figure out how to set things up

Again, just checking things out. Notice how tight the tubes running from the res are up against my drive cage.

Test fit with the mobo and other crucial parts in there. I had to eliminate the plan for the back radiator. It was just going to be too big and in the way.

Testing for leaks and figuring out what a loud piece of crap the D4 pump is.

After returning that pump and buying a new res, due to the fact that I couldn't find any thread x barb 90's for the original DD res, this is the new setup with the AQX-50Z-12V pump and a res from Frozen CPU.

I was a little bummed when I couldn't figure out how to use both of my rads without severely modding the case. I finally came up with this concoction. That is a rad-120mm fan-rad-120mm fan in a nice little package.

I was a bit concerned with the lack of airflow, especially since I mounted my pump in front of the original single 80mm fan, so I added another 80mm fan next to it.

And the end result, with pretty much everything installed. Still need to install one optical drive and see if I can clean it up a bit. For the most part it's done though. :D

So far I'm pretty happy with the performance. My temps with the Zalman 7000alcu were 48c/69c oc'd to 3.4g. With the wc rig I'm at 41c/51c @ 3.75g. I can get the rig to boot up and even run a few benches at 3.9g but it eventually crashes. I was hoping to maybe hit 4.0g but I don't think I can get it that high. I'll keep working on it though. :rolleyes:

So what do you guys think of my first DIY wc rig?
 
Damn, good job. The only thing i dont like is the small rad, other wise its great. By the way how did you mount the pump?

I'm not real sure about my rad setup either but I really didn't want to have to do too much cutting. I'm not sure how effective blowing warm air from the first rad through the second rad is. :rolleyes: The pump is just mounted to the back of the case, same as the mobo.
 
I like how you mounted the shroud on the rad. I was wondering how good a seal I should have (and I'm terrible and cutting the metal for the shroud)... duct tape, man's best tool. Anyone know if rad's in series work ok? I've got space problems and that's probably the only way I'll be able to dissipate more heat.

And yea, the Laing Tech D4 from Danger Den (in case anyone searches the forum on it) is an annoying one, I was very saddened to have bought it. And now I can't return it because it's used :(

I was considering myself just picking up some sexy silent 120mm (prolly low flow, but quiet) and then making a [fan/rad/fan/rad/fan ----> out the back] kind of system. I've got enough runway room, hehe.

So what kind of proc/etc you got in there?

got the same one and working on watercooling it currently.

If you cut out the 3.5" bays you can have room for a dual 120mm heatercore :)

A Dremmel works pretty good. Takes a little practice to get good at it though. Make sure you get the reinforced cutting wheels for it.
 
After a little testing it turns out my concerns of having too little air flow through the case were correct. I have dropped my cpu and nb temps but my case temps have risen almost 10c and my hd's have gone up almost 20c!! I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fix this. Maybe a blowhole on top or mount a fan to the drive cage somehow. What do you guys think?
 
Like I said I have the same case.

I was playing with an idea of putting a fan on the back of the top HD rack. Right below the power supply. This would blow air accross a single hard-drive but is pretty much useless if you have two

PS. Im waiting on a 2nd dual 120mm shroud a couple fans then ill take some pics of what im working on

I'd be very interested to see how you set yours up. This is a great case but it has some small quirks that were kind of a bitch to work around. The optical drive cage is a pos in my opinion. The fact that it's setup for rails and leaves very little room for adjustment to get things all lined up was a pain. As it is my res is just sitting in there. The only thing holding it in place are my hoses. :rolleyes:

If I do end up cutting a blow hole then I'll probably try to move that second rad up there too. That would probably do a lot for airflow and increase my wc performance.
 
Just a thought, as I can't tell what kind of space is between the PSU/drive cage and drives/sides of the case..But maybe you could close up the drive cage with some plexi (or whatever) and create a wind tunnel effect, ie: a slow speed fan front & rear of the cage, or even one in back like Taf was saying, but with vent holes on the other end for the air to pass through?.. Just a thought to ponder, as simply having a fan in the back of the cage wouldn't be nearly as effective for the 3xHD's as a whole.
 
Id even condier replacing that 120mm with a dual 120mm Rad. It will actually fit in this case. You just need to remove the floppy drive cage. and then it sits in there nicely.

Im doing a front mounted heatercore, all inside the case, with 4x120mm and it fits no problem
 
nice setup. What case is that? It looks ideal for WC but I havn't seen it anywhere.
 
why is D4 a piece of crap? i thought it was suppose to be one of the quietest DC pump with native 1/2" out there

Thanks. Thats the Silverstone Temjin TJ06. I was fairly happy how it turned out also. I'm planning some changes pretty soon though. Here it is just before I sealed it up and put it under my desk.

I think I can fit a 2 X 120mm heater core by removing just one of my 3.5" bays. I'll have to reroute my tubing and move my pump and mod the front panel but it should be a better solution when I'm done.

I've said this so many times that I'm starting to feel bad for baggin' so much on this pump. It's a great pump if you don't mind the high pitched whine it makes. I can't imagine that not bothering anyone but a lot of people use it. I was talking to a guy who was in the Army as an Artillery Gunner who didn't mind the noise too much. For me wc'ing is about performance and quiet. That pump isn't quiet by any means.
 
so...whats ur recommendation on a quiet DC pump (1/2" native)
the one u switched to? anything else?

The AQX-50Z is probably the best all around pump in terms of price, quiet and performance on the market right now. Some will probably argue with me on that but that's my personal opinion. As far as another pump, the MCP350 has gotten some great reviews. It has 3/8" barbs but with a relatively easy mod on the inlet side you can increase the flow dramatically. Making the pump suitable for a 1/2" system.

That is VW/Audi coolant. You have to ask for the blue stuff. They've recently changed the color of their coolant for their newer cars.
