It's been over 7 years since my last build and my mainboard just died so I figured now was as good time as any. This one has lasted me fairly well with the only upgrades being the video cards. Originally had 2 8800 GTs IIRC.

Old Machine :

EVGA 680i LT SLI Mainboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (Thermalright HSF)
Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR2 PC3200 @ 5-5-5-18
EVGA 560 Ti (x2 SLI)
WD Raptor 10K 74GB x2(striped)
WD Black 1TB 7200 x2(mirrored)
Silverstone OP1000
Cooler Master Cosmos Case
LG DVD burner

New machine :

MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX AC Mainboard
Intel i7-4770K (Noctua NH-D14 HSF)
G.Skill Trident X 32GB 2400 @ 10-12-12-31
EVGA SC GTX 760 (x2 SLI)
Samsung EVO 250GB SSD (x2 mirrored)
WD Black 1TB 7200 (x2 mirrored)
Antec HCP-1300 Platinum
LG Bluray burner
Cooler Master HAF 932 Case

My budget was $2500 but I ended up going over by about a hundred.

My old system was still hanging in there and while it couldn't handle high end games at max settings it was still serviceable. Planning on tracking down another 680 board and turning it into a dedicated bitcoin miner. See if I can get .000002 bitcoins in the next few months!

The 32GB of memory is because this is also my work computer and I run multiple instances of SQL 2012. It likes memory and my old machine could barely handle one instance. It'll be nice not having a million page faults constantly.

Good that you finally have a new PC but man, you could have done a waaaaay better for the money. Too late to cancel the order or return the parts?

Sucks for me that the MPower Max decides to upgrade to AC 2 months after I got mine...

Just fyi, if you plan to RAID your SSD's, your only option is RAID 0 because the other arrays don't support TRIM.

And your choice of RAM is beyond overkill. A 32 GB kit at 1600 MHz will perform just as well, run at lower voltage, and may even be more stable. The Trident X has very tall heatsinks and will definitely collide with a twin tower cooler like the D14.

Here's a reference pic of my Ballistix Elites touching on the Xigmatek Dark Kight with a 25mm deep fan attached, so it will be a tight fit for all single tower coolers as it is:

agreed, anything or 1600 if overkill, anything over 1866 is a waste. Also, 2tb drives are probably a better value than 1tb drives. I started recommending low profile RAM to all my friends. I'm pretty sure a 700-800w PSU can handle your system and I would also throw in that the MB is likely way overkill for your needs.
