Clicky - forgive me for including all of that useless performance data, scroll to the bottom. Here we have typical idle/seek power consumption, as well as peak +5 and +12 draw, for four contemporary ATA hard disks. Looks like Barracudas need 2.5A on +12 for spinup Hitachi is frickin amazing - only 15 watts of +12 draw to spinup a five platter drive.
