I've finally just about got all the money together to get a new rig. I'm just looking to build a fast, stable system, no more overclocking for me. I'll be using it mostly for gaming, some movie editing, etc. I'm looking in the range of $1500 to spend. Here's what I have so far, please recommend anything might have missed or would be better.

Case: Aspire X-QPACK
Mobo: BIOSTAR TForce6100-939
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 3800+
GFX: eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256-P2-N516
Ram: OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin Platinum
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W or Antec NeoHE 430
HD: Not sure
DVD/CD: Not sure
Heatsink: Stock one be ok?

Current computer is in my sig. Thanks eveyone. :D

Well since you are not overclocking you may as well go with the ASUS CSM or the MSI 6150 as those boards are more feature rich. Specifically, your setup is lacking a sound card, and the HD Audio on the aforementioned 6150 boards will certainly help.

Excellent choice for CPU and GPU.

The Enermax PSUs may be shorter, but don't quote me on that. My Antec PSU is a little longer than I'd like.

As for the CD/DVD burner - see my sig. They are short and fit nicely in the QPACK.

As for HDD. For capacity and quiet operation I like Hitachi and some WD drives. For speed there is the one obvious choice.

"First FFS"

You meant SFF, right? Wtf is a FFS? Dyslexic (sp?)? Em oot. Anyhow, the Biostar's for OCing. I'd get the ASUS if I had to choose between it and the MSI.

I have the Liberty 500w and love it. It is short, that is for sure.

As for optical, I have the BenQ1640. Love it.

I have two HDDs, one Maxtor, and one Hitachi. If I would do it over, I would go Seagate for both or both Hitachi.

CPU HS, go with the Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu

I went with the Jetway Pro board. I don't do overclocking, and the only thing that is missing on it is gigibit ethernet and firewire. Though I have two firewire ports (1xinternal) on my sound card. And I don't have a use for gigibit.

That is a eVGA 7800gt (518) in that pic also. With a Zalman VF700-cu. Also I have the passive Zalman chipset cooler. Anyone notice a pattern with me and Zalman coolers. :D

the enermax liberty 400w would be plenty of juice for your system, too, or the xclio 450w if modular doesn't matter. either option would save you some money.

Awesome, thanks everyone for the suggestions. Can't wait to get this thing going. I'm planning on gettin a X-Fi as soon as i can, so i'm not too worried about the onboard sound. Thanks again. :D
