I just bought a Q-Pack and read up on its PSU; found out it's unreliable and can damage my system's components. So I went and look up PSU. I found this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023

It seems to deliver the Amperes as stated in the FAQ as well as wattage needed.

I'll be running:

biostar tforce6100-939
opteron 165
nvidia geforce 7800gt co
audigy 2 zs
1gb corsair ram
plextor 716A dvd burner
2x 120gb 7200rpm hd IDE
Zalman 7000B cpu fan
aspire 120mm case fan.

I noticed that Thermaltake is listed on the not recommended PSU list.... but this seems to fit the bill almost perfectly though. (was looking for 50 shipped) The newegg reviews seem very positive. The only thing that's getting me edgy is the fact that Thermaltake is present under the non-recommended PSU brand...

Anyone got any bad things to say? or good things at all? or neutral? I certainly don't want the PSU to be the killing culprit of my components.

thanks!

PS: I'm sure you've seen my posts with noob questions recently... I assure you it will soon be done when I finish building this new desktop of mine. :) :p

You get what you pay for. Newegg reviews are bad. Don't believe them.

Buy a real psu and overclock it, [H] style.

That's cutting it too close for comfort. The 18A on the single +12V rail - and there is only one +12V rail on that PSU - leaves you with absolutely no headroom at all whatsoever, given your components. Which means that the PSU itself may shut off in the middle of an average game.

wow... that's breaking 100 for a PSU.

So what's a cheapest PSU that will power what I listed? I'm really tight on budget.

Probably the Xclio 450bl
Coolermaster xTremePower 430w
Sytrin Nextherm PSU460

But I don't guarentee any of those will fit.

Ok, now this looks a little better right?

15A and 17A on two +12V rails. Also, I'm not sure how these would combine though, but it works then it's good right? haha

Also, what's the cheapest compliant to my system that has that cool x-connect style plugs? Good or just gimmicky? I ask, cuz all I can find that features such connectors are Ultra and Enermax, but they both are a tad expensive. Was just wondering if one exists in the range of like 50-60

Ok, I've finally made my final decision on this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104154

60+tax+shipping (after rebate)

which is what i'm willing to pay. That fortron source looks mighty tempting, but I went with the OCZ EZMod feature, which seems very convenient.

haha... always the case, I start out at somewhere and ended up paying almost twice as much... xD

Thanks for all the input

Since the links you all posted are pretty much outdated... what do you all recomend now for the same case but, with a 4600 X2 and 7900gtx, 1 HD, 1 optical.. everything else stock?

It looks like it has nice dual 12v rails at 15/17a... and it wouldn't be a problem with a 4600X2 with 2 sticks ddr2 ram, 1 HD, 7900gtx, 1 120mm fan. 3 USB slots always active??

Absolutely no problem at all.

Last question... would 450w be pushing it to its max if you do alot of gaming or would somthing just be a bit better while gaming since its not always running at its max all the time?

4600x2 7900gtx

You aren't going to come close to actually pulling 450W out of the power supply with the stuff you have.

I OC the hell out of my X2 and 6800GS, plus have one more hard drive and one more optical drive, FWIW. I doubt if I pull more than 300W at any one time.

ok the only question left is.. are you using a 170mm Optical and how long is this PSU? Did you have to get the diffrent Molex connector so it will fit just right or can you do with just the regular molex connector?

I've never used it in a QPack.
