I am buying a G5 for the use of Final Cut Pro.... On the box it says that it requires an AGP card but the G5 I am buying has a PCI.....

Will this work on my G5?

Yes, it's PCI-Express and will work fine. You think Apples pro software doesn't work on Apple's pro machines?

I did not think that it would be a problem... but i have had a few people tell me to be careful and make sure that it is the most up to date version of the software as the normal Final Cut Pro 5 only supports AGP and the Power Mac G5 has the PCI which is only compatible with the newest version which is something like Final Cut Pro 5.234203490239 or what ever... I was just planning on getting the final cut studio pro set and going from there.

actually it won't work
the version of FCP must be PCI ready, if the box states it needs AGP then you need a new version of FCP
when i did support i got at least 1 call a day from pissed customers about how they could
not run FCP because it kept saying they needed to upgrade there video card to AGP
when they just bought a brand new powermac

Why did the guy at the Macintosh store assure me that it runs.....

Also they had a floor modle of the G5 (quad) running with Final Cut on it?

Are the floor modles older versions of the g5?

Because he is 100% correct!

Worst case you need to apply a software update from Apple to make it compatible after you install it.

And you told them to downlaod the newest update from software update right? Because thats all they need to do.
This is a silly thread! Final cut pro will run on any mac with a g5
