Hey all,

Just making a final check of what I will be putting together for my new SFF PC. I previously posted awhile back in the HTPC area, but have since revised my focus to having a formidable small PC, which may be later modified to be an HTPC.

I need:
-(3) 3.5" HD locations (2 in RAID1 for main OS, one extra storage)
-Room for future VC. I run a 7600GT right now and would like to get something with nuts by the end of the year. The Microfly seems to have decent room, correct?
-Eventually will have a Blu-Ray Drive, and will need to be able to play and record HD material

Parts:
CPU: E8400 - $190...seems a bit high, but whoops most other stuff out there (or would a E7200 be OK for $130?)
MB: ASUS P5K-VM LGA - (($105 shipped) I will be doing all my video stuff using additional cards, so HDMI wasn't that important.
Case: Microfly MX - Any guidance on the PS? The 600W seems crappy, but I'm not able to find it without. I may just test the waters as I will have an external UPS which should filter out external junk coming in.

Mem: Existing Mushkin DDR 800, 2GB (2 x 1GB) - any real reason to buy faster stuff right now?

One other question is does the on-board raid do as good of a job as an external card???

Definitely don't keep the Ultra 600W PSU for long. They're pretty much crap for gaming rigs. So get a new PSU like a Corsair. In fact I recommend this Corsair PSU:
Corsair 520HX 520W Modular PSU - $105

For a RAID 0 or 1 setup, onboard RAID will just as good of a job as an external RAID card. For any other RAID setups, onboard RAID is royally crap.

No reason to buy faster RAM unless you plan to OC to 3.6Ghz and higher.

Case wise, the Microfly should fit most cards out there. Though I recommend checking out this case:

I'm also tempted with the SG01 case. It's nice and small, and if I'm already getting a new PS, then it seems to work OK. Not quite as many drive locations as I'd like, but I can hack it a bit. I'm kind of a fan of black cases.
 
There is a black version of the SG-02 case but it's currently OOS.
 
I have a 9600GT in my microfly with probably 3 inches to spare. You just have to make sure the power connector is on the end and not the side. Video cards themselves are a standard width but vary in length. The only things you really have to watch is the cooler as it can not bigger than the card itself, i.e. extends past the top of the card.
 
I don't care for the aesthetics or design of the Microfly. Nor do I like paying for a PSU I don't want.

I'm going with a Silverstone SG01B-F. It's less expensive than the SG01 Evolution, has an updated drive cage design like the SG02-F that accommodates larger gfx cards and a steel chassis that is quieter than aluminium.

I also prefer the aluminium front panel of the SG01 to the plastic SG02.
