Fillport with a res?

Well, with my new case build, I'm finally getting to the point that I'm trying to lay out my parts. My current res is that cheap white plastic from DD. When taking it apart from my old case, I realized how hard it is to drain, and it was somewhat of a pain to remove and fill when needed. Well with this new case, I've been toying with the idea of mounting sideways in the back corner of the case and running a fillport out of the third fitting instead of plugging it. This would make it extremely easy to fill and empty. I like having the res for the extra water in the loop so I don't really want to toss it out, but if this setup doesn't work, I will probably need to end up tossing it....

And also, I was going to place an order on Jab-Tech hopefully tonight with some fans and I would like to purchase this fillport with the order. Anyone happen to know what the OD on that fillport from Jab-Tech is? On DD, you have to specify, but it won't let you on JT? My guess is that it is 1/2" but I'm running 3/8" fittings with 5/16" tubing, so there is no way I will jab that tubing on a 1/2" barb.....
 
just a question... why do you like the idea of more water in your loop? if there is ever a leak it just turns into more ammunition. i like the idea tho... just wasnt clear on the reasoning.

Well I guess it's not the matter of having more water, it's more of the fact that it's quite a bit easier to clear out the air. The way I would have the res positioned, all air that travels through the res would get sucked out into the spare tubing leading to the fill port.

In short, the only problem that I see with this, if it's a problem at all is.... Will it kill my flow at all? The more I think about it, the less I think it will change flow at all...
 
I would still like a final answer to this... My guess is that it won't do anything but then again, what do I know....

I emailed jab-tech about the DD fillport, it is 1/2", but the guy claims that he fit his 3/8" tubing over it. I guess I can try using some of my older Tygon 3/8" and hopefully it will fit ok. Even if it puts a ton of stress on the fitting, it's not like is a critical poitn of the loop. There shouldn't be any standing water anywhere near the conenction.
 
You can fit 3/8" tubing over 1/2" barbs.
My suggestion is to heat up the tubing (I use the GF's hairdryer) then wiggle it over the fitting.
As for flow, since you are only using it for a fillport, it wont change flow at all (I have done the exact same kind of setup using a simmilar rez in a couple of computers).

That's what I was thinking, and that's pretty much exactly what the guy returning my email said for jab-tech.
