Fillport vs. Res

Just wondering if many people use only the fill port instead of a full res.

is there any flow difference?

is it difficult to fill or bleed?
 
not much flow difference at all, fillports aren't necessarily (sp?) harder to bleed...but they do take longer to bleed.
 
They do make a cleaner install, less parts and less tubing............ :eek: But I still use my home built rez.......................... :D
 
i like the fill port or any t style thing better than res...i think its a matter of personal opinion.
 
do you just flip the pump on and start dumping water into the fill port.

no chance of burning up the pump motor?
 
Put some water in first before turning the pump on. Running the pump dry is what causes issues.

Pour in a good bit (I'd say as much as you can, but I've never actually done this, just read up on it. If someone else says differently, I'll stand corrected.) then start the pump until the tubing you're filling gets low, then stop the pump, add more water, and repeat until the whole system is filled.

Like I said, I've not done this, but I do believe that's how it's done.

yes, if you put too much liquid into it in the first place. This means that it will not overflow if you run the pump since chances are that there is air in the system which makes the coolant level appear higher than it actually is. However, I would suggest that you do not fill the hose all the way, since that is just not a good idea.
 
using a fillport usually means a Tee is included. When you filling, if you can make sure the Tee is the at the highest point of your entire wc equipment, then will take lesser time to bleed out the air.
 
I use both a fillport and a reservoir. It makes filling my side mounted AC Aquatube a lot easier.
 
That's pretty much what I use, it just makes life a little easier........... :D I guess I could remove the tube after I was finished filling the system because I never have to add anything between flushes, the res holds over 40 oz of fluid............ :eek:

wow 40oz, maybe my whole loop contain less than that amount. Draining that must be a pita, but then again, probably only take a few mins to bleed on refills. Nice diy res.
