Well I finally got around to finishing my external water box. I am ready to fill and do leak testing, my question is, how do I fill it with coolant and get all the air out? I set it up in the garage last night with my blocks, filled as much water in the res as would fit, started the pump and added more water as it pumped it out of the res.. but got to a point where I could not add any more water as the res would not hold anymore, but there is a whole lot of air left in the system and I am unsure how to get it all out. Plus it brought up another question on how would I safely drain the system later if I needed to? This is my first water cooling system.

Its setup like this.

res > pump intake > out pump/water box to cpu block > gpu block > back to water box into heater core > out heater core > res.

I have about 5 feet of tubing going from water box to blocks/pc and same going back out to water box.

If it were me I'd have the radiator in front of the blocks, but lots of people say the order of components doesn't matter, so who knows.

As for bleeding, you'll need to shake things up. I sat there for a long time turning my rad over, flipping it around, shaking it, etc, to get the air out and moving.

Make sure your res is at the highest point of the loop. Air is lighter than water, so it will move up :)

It helped me a few times to turn on the pump for a sec, then cut power, so that the small air bubbles would collect into larger bubbles. Keep turning it on and off and the larger bubbles will have a better chance of getting trapped in the res and rising to the top, where you want the air to go.

Give it some time. I use a t-line, not a res, so YMMV compared to mine, but it took several days of twisting and turning various components, starting and stopping the pump, and letting the system run before all the air was gone.
