Is there any reason why I can't seem to transfer files through AOL Instant Messenger from my 32bit Vista Ultimate laptop to my 64bit Vista Business desktop? I backed some files up on my laptop before installing Vista64 on my desktop and now that I want to transfer those files back on to my desktop I keep getting a message stating that my desktop AIM client does not support file transfers? Thanks in advance for any and all help, suggestions and comments.
 
I don't know, but I've always found file transfer over IM networks to be flaky.

Why use AIM to transfer the files though? If they're on the same network, wouldn't setting up a folder share and transferring them over the network be easier?
 
You could also install an FTP server software on one computer and access it from the other. Then install an FTP client on the other computer to access the FTP server (or use IE/Firefox if you don't want to). When using the FTP client, you will know if the file transfer is successful or if it failed. Filezilla is a free FTP server and client that works in Vista.
 
I agree with Mithent. If they are on the same network, it is much more simple to use regular Windows networking.
