I have 6 computers in my home network and 2 routers.... would have prefered one router and one switch, but i'm trying to work with what i have at the moment. which are cheap belkin and netgear routers.

i have the belkin router with the input from the modem plugged in to he wan and then i used one of the port on that router to go to the netgear routers wan port.

not sure if that the best way to network them, but it worked. Now i'd like to share files between the pc hooked up to the belkin router and the netgear router. not sure if i have to open up a port use static ip's or what?

since you have belkin plugged into the netgears WAN port you will have to open ports to allow access from the computers on the belkin router. Not sure wich ports though.

Just use the second router as a switch. Link it to the main router via LAN instead of WAN side, and you're on a single-router network. Also disable its DHCP and other services.
