file server ticking me off.

Ok, this is the gayest thing I have ever seen.

My stupid ass file server keeps freezing EVERYTIME I start doing file transfers.

The computer will be just fine just sitting there.. but like 2 minutes into ANY filetransfers I start it locks up.

What the hell?
 
What OS is on the file server?

Also you could try replacing the NIC. I had a machine where the NIC stopped working when it had to do any sustained transfers. So if I transfered a file that was over 5 meg it would stop working. It didn't hang the machine but it was also running OpenBSD. I don't know how windows would react if that's what you are using.

matoch you beat me to it. I was gonna suggest first find out if there are any updated drivers or even reinstall the old ones or replace the NIC.
 
It was running 2000 server way back in the day.. but I had to upgrade to gay XP pro because my it was the only OS my sound card worked with.

Its also an mp3 server into my home theater.

And let me clarify.. its doesnt really "lock up"
I have watched task manager during the file transfers and I look at the CPU usage and it runs along at like 30 40 % during the first part of the transfers... then all of a sudden it just drops to 0% CPU usage.

Then it just acts REALLY slow and eventually stops responding to input.
 
alright.. I need some more help guys.

Its getting so bad I cant even transfer a few megs before it locks up.

and I NEED to get this information off the RAID0 Array.

I have tried transfering from the RAID array directly to a hard drive connected to the computer.. and it still locks up.

I even tried putting the RAID array on an identical motherboard I have but the other computer cant see the array properly.

Does anyone know of a way to get the data off this array?
