So i have a new 200gb harddrive that is consistantly having problems on the first 80 partition, and its not my boot drive. The hd may work fine for a week or two, then bam, out of nowhere the partition is no longer accessible. Can anyone tell me whats the best way to fix the drive and possibly restore the File Allocation Table so I can get at my files. I'm thinking I should rma this pos at this point since the problem keeps happening.

Thanks

When even part of a 200GB starts to fail, you stand to lose alot of data. RMAing is the ONLY option, IMO.

Don't mess with a failing HD. Even if you did get it stable, it's only going to die a horrific death in the very near future taking all your pron with it.

RMA that bad boy.

I actually forgot to include some other info:

When i open explorer and click on this partition it gives me this:

"D:\ is not accessible"
"The parameter is incorrect."

I want to fix this drive so i can recover any files and THEN I can rma it, anyone?

give me what is reported in Disk Management

Start > Run > (type) diskmgmt.msc

as far as fix goes see Disk Patch
for an RMA it will probably need to fail the manufacturers Diagnostic with an error code

to make things easy here is a shot of my disk management screen.. the disk 1 is the 200gb drive thats having problems.. you know after reading that long thread about the old mobos not being able to handle the 48bit addressing it made me realize that each time the first partition of this drive failed, i was doing a file copy of large or many files to this 200gb drive.. perhaps this is my problem? i have a asus a7m mobo, but have no idea if it's thats the problem
