Hey All.

Read the stickies here on UPS' and had a few questions about them.

Trouble I am having is determining how high of a UPS I need exactly, as I am powering:

* Westinghouse LVM-37w3 ( 130-150 watts )
* Logitech z5500 Speakers (rated @ 505 watts draw, but doubt it actually pulls that much, 1000w peak)
* Computer (in sig, but a Corsair 620watt psu)

Would this OPTI-UPS Enhanced Series ES1000C 1000VA 700W 8 Outlets UPS be sufficient enough to run those 3 items? overkill? too little?

Thank you for any help possible.

iT all depends on how much battery run time do you want. For example I have cyber power 1500va 900W ups and my main system can run ~15 min on battery. Oh and the 37w3 only draws 90W (i have the SE version but i doubt its more efficient then the regular 37w3). I would think the unit you linked would give you about 10 min

Yeah sorry to mention that little fact: looking for 10-15 mins max, just to safely turn off all hardware.

So basically, the higher wattage/cost UPS just guarantees you more time ? I was just worried that the power draw of the hardware might exceed that of the rated UPS and hence the higher wattage/VA UPS.

ya higher va = more run time but you shouldn't put more then 80% load on a ups so for example if your system draws 400W at load you need at least 500W ups. Also you should get something with AVR (automatic voltage regulator) I'm not sure if the opti ups you linked has it or not cuz i never used that brand, I'm only familiar with apc and cyberpower.

Hmm.. if that were the case, maybe I should plug in just the monitor and computer then and just plug the speakers into a power strip. Those speakers seem a little too power hungry. My system in sig probably only draws 400 watts max, and add that monitor in, roughly around 500~ watt UPS, i'd be looking for ?

So the one I linked to earlier could possibly work, though I haven't heard of the brand until recently.

Sub 100 would be great. Not passing 150 would the ideal mark. Of course, best deal for the dollar is always welcome.

Thanks for the link axan, ill take a look at that.

Give computer about 200W
Gve the LCD TV about 200W and misc stuff 100W

You're up to 500W.

I would get a refurbished APC Smart-UPS.

It has a 24v 12Ah battery, while that Opti-UPS has a 24v 7.2Ah battery, so you'll get more runtime. As an added benefit, it's a sinewave UPS, so you won't get noise in your speaker.
