Mikrotik/Cisco compatibility question.

Our provider is supplying a 1000Base LX connection with a Cisco WS-G5486 (1310nm 1000BaseLX) transceiver.

I am running a mikrotik S-31DLC20D transceiver, but I can't find anywhere in the specs regarding the LX spec. It is 1310nm. Would anyone know if these transceivers are compatible.

Are you using single or multi-mode fiber?
It appears the microtik works only with single-mode, whereas the Cisco is compatible with both single and mutli-mode.

The Cisco 1000BASE-LX/LH GBIC (WS-G5486) fully complies with the IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-LX10 standard. It allows for reaches up to 6.2 miles (10 km) over single-mode fiber (SMF) and up to 550 meters over multimode fiber (MMF).

S-31DLC20D is a 1.25G SFP transceiver with a 1310nm Dual LC connector, for up to 20 kilometer Single Mode fiber connections, with DDM

Did you try swapping the ends? You'd be surprised how many freaking times the cable guys mess up and cross the cables. One is send, one is receive. Most of the times its as simple as taking apart the end, swapping the cables left/right and putting it back lol

You try all the data rates manually? Auto-negotiation may not be working. Just because the GBIC is 1000FX doesn't mean that they have it running at 1000fx.

You usually can't set rates/duplex on fiber SFPs. It's one speed or nothing.

RouterOS has a setting for it on all their SFP ports and I have seen it (especially from a cisco gbic to mikrotik gbic) that you have to specify 1000mbps before it would work. Mikrotik to Mikrotik always works.

Hell, on second thought stick the cisco GBIC into the mikrotik. I've seen that work before.

EDIT: Wait, that cisco is the big stupid one isn't it? Guess that won't work.

Toggle auto negotiation, roll the ends. If neither of these work, check light levels at your router and at the providers demarc.
